Owner report 10164544 · 2006-08-04 (August 4, 2006)

PURCHASED A NEW 2006 YAMAHA FJR1300 MOTORCYCLE. THE THROTTLE ACTION IS EXTREMELY QUICK AND STIFF, SO MUCH SO THAT APPLYING THROTTLE IN TURNS CAN CAUSE OVER ACCELERATION AND POSSIBLE LOSS OF CONTROL. IT IS ALSO A PROBLEM IN TRAFFIC AND STARTING OUT, BUT TURNS PRESENT THE LARGEST DANGER. YAMAHA STATES IN THEIR ADS THAT THEY "IMPROVED THE THROTTLE ACTION" IN 2006 BUT THEY HAVE MADE IT VERY DANGEROUS FOR ANYONE AND PARTICULARLY A NEW RIDER WHO MAY NOT BE AS SMOOTH. I HAVE OWNED 12 MOTORCYCLES AND HAVE BEEN RIDING FOR 30 YEARS. I FEEL THIS IS A…

TURNING THE IGNITION KEY FAILED TO TURN ON THE POWER. UNABLE TO START MOTORCYCLE. DUE TO LOCATION AT TIME OF FAILURE (NO CELL OR PUBLIC PHONE READILY AVAILABLE) ALMOST HAD TO LEAVE MOTORCYCLE IN THIS REMOTE LOCATION. WAS ABLE TO 'JIGGLE' THE KEY AND FINALLY GET POWER TO START. CONTINUED TO HOTEL WHERE UPON MORNING, NO AMOUNT OF 'JIGGLING' WOULD TURN ON POWER TO START. WAS SUGGESTED TO 'TRY' BRAKE CLEANER IN THE IGNITION SWITCH TO CLEAN THE CONTACTS, BUT SWITCH WOULD STILL NOT FUNCTION, AND TO RENT U- HAUL TRUCK TO RETURN MOTORCYCLE TO HOME LOC…

Owner report 10194733 · 2007-06-27 (June 27, 2007)

IGNITION SWITCH FAILURE ON 2006 YAMAHA MOTORCYCLE MODEL NUMBER FJR 1300A RESULTED IN SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER IN A CORNER AND STRANDED IN DEATH VALLEY, NEVADA. FOUR WIRES ENTER THE SWITCH HOUSING. ONE OF THE TWO LARGE WIRES PULLED COMPLETELY OUT OF THE SWITCH, WITH THE BRASS SWITCH CONTACT STILL SOLDERED/CRIMPED ON THE END. THIS FAILURE *APPEARS* TO BE THE RESULT OF THE WIRING HARNESS BEING STRETCHED TOO TIGHT DURING THE ASSEMBLY PROCESS. THE WIRES GOING INTO THE SWITCH HAVE NO SLACK, THEY ARE 'BANJO STRING TIGHT'.

2006 YAMAHA FJR1300 MOTORCYCLE. SUDDEN COMPLETE SHUT DOWN OF ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. PROBLEM CAUSED BY WIRES DETACHING FROM IGNITION SWITCH. WIRES TOO TIGHT FROM FACTORY AND WERE COLD SOLDERED WITH VERY WEAK CONNECTION. CAN YOU IMAGINE POWERING UP TO OVERTAKE A VEHICLE AND YOU HAVE A SUDDEN WITHOUT WARNING COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER,A VERY DANGEROUS SENARIO

Owner report 10196104 · 2007-07-11 (July 11, 2007)

CURRENT METZLER Z6 TIRES THAT CAME STOCK ON A 2006 YAMAHA FJR 1300A SHOWED RUBBER CRACKING ALL AROUND THE EDGE OF BOTH SIDEWALLS. THIS WAS A ONE YEAR OLD TIRE WITH 5000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN STORED INSIDE. BEING A FRONT TIRE, IF IT WAS TO FAIL, TREAD SEPARATION, THE CONSEQUENCES COULD BE DEADLY. METZLER DID NOT PROVIDE SATISFACTORY HELP OVER THE TELEPHONE. I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THIS TIRE ON MY OWN TERMS. THIS WA S A DANGEROUS PRODUCT AND IT WAS NOT BEING DEALT WITH. *AK

Owner report 10197748 · 2007-07-29 (July 29, 2007)

WHEN OPERATING THIS VEHICLE AT ALTITUDES ABOVE APPROXIMATELY 5,000 FEET THE THROTTLE BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE. ENGINE POWER BECOMES UNPREDICTABLE AS SLIGHT THROTTLE INPUTS GENERATE LESS POWER. WHEN THROTTLE INPUT IS FURTHER INCREASED, POWER IS DELIVERED ABRUPTLY LEADING TO A LOSS OF CONTROL. AS YET, I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED A CRASH DUE TO THIS CONDITION BUT CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN COMPROMISED AND OPERATION HAS BEEN UNSAFE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. *TR
