I JUST PURCHASED A BRAND NEW MOTOR CYCLE. WITHIN RIDING THE BIKE 30 MILES ONE WAY TO WORK, THE SEAT AND FRAME OF THE BIKE BECAME SO HOT THAT IT BURNED MY GROWING AREA, BUTT AND MY LEGS. I TRIED TO RIDE THE BIKE ON OTHER OCCASIONS AND HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES. WHEN IT IS HOT OUTSIDE, THIS BIKE IS EXCEEDING TEMPERATURES THAT CAN BURN THE HUMAN BODY. WHEN I RESEARCHED ONLINE TO SEE IF OTHERS WERE COMPLAINING AS WELL, I FOUND A WHOLE MASS OF PEOPLE STATING THE SAME PROBLEM AND STATING THAT THEY HAD TO CHANGE THE EXHAUST PIPES AND COAT THE BIKE O…

A GROUNDING BLOCK IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OVERHEATED AND FAILED. THE LOSS OF GROUND CAUSED SEVERAL ELECTRICAL ANAMOLIES, THE MOST SERIOUS BEING THAT THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED. FORTUNATELY, THIS FAILURE HAPPENED DURING THE DAY AT THE BEGINNING OF MY RIDE; IT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY SERIOUS IF THE HEADLIGHTS HAD FAILED AT NIGHT. YAMAHA HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR EARLIER MODEL YEARS FOR A SIMILAR ISSUE, BUT MY FAILURE WAS A DIFFERENT GROUNDING BLOCK, IN THE NOSE FAIRING, NOT UNDER THE TANK. The motorcycle headlights, ignition, and other electrical items work intermittently. Lights will go off with no warning while operating the bike. Ignition switch also fails with no warning. The issues appear to mirror a safety recall issued for this same bike, years 2006-2009 FJR1300 Factory Modification Campaign - Ground Wire Junction. The bulletin was issued on 7/8/2011 M2011-003R. 11V340000 · Exterior Lighting:Brake Lights:Switch

Reported: 2011-06-27 (June 27, 2011)

YAMAHA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 FJR1300 MOTORCYCLES MANUFACTURED FROM JANUARY 2011 THROUGH APRIL 2011. THE BRAKE LIGHT MAY NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE FRONT BRAKE LEVER IS APPLIED BECAUSE THE ACTIVATING MECHANISM IN THE FRONT BRAKE SWITCH CAN BIND.

Consequence: WHEN THE MOTORCYCLE OPERATOR APPLIES ONLY THE FRONT BRAKE, THE BRAKE LIGHT MAY NOT COME ON TO ALERT OTHER DRIVERS, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: YAMAHA DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW FRONT BRAKE SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 22, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT YAMAHA AT 1-800-962-7926.
