CINCINNATI OH, ON JANUARY 21, 2015, THE SAME DAY AS AN OVERPASS COLLAPSE THAT PARALYZED THE CITY AND NECESSITATED THE FULL DEPLOYMENT OF ALL AVAILABLE POLICE PERSONNEL TO DIRECT TRAFFIC, MY 2010 WHEEGO WHIP LSV VEHICLE REGISTERED A CODE 73 AND SUFFERED AN IMMEDIATE AND TOTAL LOSS OF ENGINE FUNCTION WHILE TRAVELING AT THE SPEED OF TRAFFIC. A CINCINNATI POLICE DETECTIVE WHO HAPPENED TO BE PRESENT AT THE SCENE PUSHED THE CAR INTO A LOT. THE DETECTIVE NEEDED HELP FROM TWO PASSERBYS TO MOVE THE VEHICLE DUE TO EXCESSIVE RESISTANCE. WHEEGO IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010 WHEEGO WHIP LSV LOW-SPEED VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM JANUARY 1 THROUGH JULY 31, 2009. THE REFLEX REFLECTORS ON THE SIDE AND THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE MAY NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT REFLECTIVE QUALITY AND THEREFORE FAIL TO MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD 500, "LOW-SPEED VEHICLES."
Consequence: INSUFFICIENT EXTERIOR REFLECTIVE LIGHT COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy: WHEEGO WILL SEND INSTRUCTIONS AND 4 COMPLIANT REFLEX REFLECTORS TO ALL DEALERS AND OWNERS FREE OF CHARGE FOR ADHESION TO THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 21, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT WHEEGO AT 1-678-904-4795.
