ON THE FIRST DAY I PICKED UP THE CAR IN OCTOBER, THE FRONT RIGHT HEADLIGHT (BI-XENON) BECAME INOPERATIVE. VOLVO STATES THIS ISA KNOWN DEFECT AND THAT 2004 MODELS WERE SHIPPED WITH DEFECTIVE BALLAST. PART ON ORDER NOW OVER THREE MONTHS.*AK

03V308000 · Power Train:Automatic Transmission
Reported: 2003-08-22 (August 22, 2003)
ON CERTAIN HEAVY-DUTY CLASS 8 VEHICLES, THE BODY BUILDER WIRING OPTION WAS MIS-WIRED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE AUTO NEUTRAL WITH SERVICE BRAKE STATUS OPTION MAY ALLOW THE TRANSMISSION TO GO INTO FORWARD GEAR WITHOUT THE DRIVER'S FOOT PRESSING DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL FIRST.
Consequence: UNINTENDED MOVEMENT OF THE VEHICLE COULD PUT PERSONS IN DANGER INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE.
Remedy: VOLVO TRUCKS WILL NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS AND INSTALL AN ADDITIONAL AIR OPERATED STOP LIGHT SWITCH AND THE NECESSARY WIRING CHANGES. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING SEPTEMBER 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT AT 1-800-528-6586.
