Owner report 10197308 · 2007-07-24 (July 24, 2007)
THE MUFFLER ON MY GT200 HAS A EXHAUST PROBLEM WHERE THE EXHAUST IS EATING THOUGH THE COLLAR. THIS HAS CAUSED NUMEROUS INJURIES AND IN MANY INSTANCES BECAUSE THE NEXT CLOSEST PART TO THE COLLENT COLLAR IS THE BRAKE CABLE. THE RIDER IS LEFT WITH NO BREAKS. WHILE VESPA USA IS PREPARING A RECALL FOR THE GS 250 THE IDENTICAL MUFFLER AND COLLAR IS ON THE GT200. YET VESPA REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS SYSTEMIC DESIGN FAILURE. *TR

THE FUEL PUMP IN MY 2006 VESPA GTS 250 STOPPED FUNCTIONING UNEXPECTEDLY. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM I HAVE LEARNED THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHER CASES OF THIS SAME PROBLEM. MINE QUIT IN TRAFFIC WHICH SET ME UP FOR A BAD ACCIDENT IF IT WERE NOT FOR MY ABILITY TO RIDE A MOTORCYCLE HAD NOT SAVED ME. PLEASE GET THIS PROBLEM ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. THANKS! *TR

07V253000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings
Reported: 2007-06-07 (June 7, 2007)
ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE GRAPHITE EXHAUST BUSHING, WHICH SEALS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE EXHAUST PIPE AND THE MUFFLER, MUST BE REPLACED EACH TIME THE MUFFLER IS REMOVED AND REINSTALLED. IF THE EXHAUST BUSHING IS NOT REPLACED, EXHAUST GASES MAY BE PERMITTED TO LEAK PAST THE BUSHING.
Consequence: THE REAR BRAKE HOSE MAY BE IMPAIRED OR MELTED, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE HEADER, PIPE, CLAMP AND GASKET, THEREBY ELIMINATING THE POTENTIAL ISSUE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 31, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VESPA/PIAGGIO AT 1-212-380-4400.
