Owner report 10327543 · 2010-04-26 (April 26, 2010)
MY SON WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT RIDING UPON A VESPA. AT THE TIME HE REPORTED THAT IT 'TOOK OFF ON IT'S OWN AND HE COULD NOT STOP IT'. FRANKLY WE THOUGHT THAT HE WAS TRYING TO EXPLAIN BAD DRIVING OR SOMETHING OF THE SORT. WHEN WE WENT TO EXAMINE THE SCOOTER TO ESTIMATE REPAIRS WE HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN WITH THE SCOOTER AND THE CENTER STAND. WE CURRENTLY HAVE THE SCOOTER IN OUR POSSESSION AND THE DEFECT SHOULD BE REPEATABLE. WE HAVE NOTIFIED PIAGGIO OVER A WEEK AGO AND THEY HAVE NOT CONTACTED US. *TR

2007 VESPA GTS 250IE, 4,316 MILES. ENGINE SHUTOFF WHILE RIDING, 6 TIMES SINCE BOUGHT BRAND NEW IN 2007. ALMOST GOT INTO ACCIDENT, BECAUSE ENGINE SHUT OFF AND SLOWS DOWN DRAMATICALLY WHILE CAR DRIVER WERE DRIVING BEHIND GOING AT 60 MPH. REPLACED SPARKPLUG, DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. USED FUEL CLEANER ADDICTIVE, DIDN'T FIX PROBLEM. SUSPECTED FUEL PUMP ISSUE. ENGINE ALSO SHUT ITSELF OFF WHILE ON IDLE. *TR

FUEL PUMP FAILS REPEATEDLY ON VESPA GTS250. IT HAS CAUSED ME TO ALMOST GET KILLED ON HIGHWAY 288 SOUTH OF HOUSTON WHEN IT FAILED ON AN INCLINE AND I HAD MULTIPLE VEHICLES BEHIND ME AND BESIDE ME ON THE FREEWAY. WORSE... IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE AMONG VESPA OWNERS AND YET THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 PIAGGIO VESPA GTS 250 SCOOTER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE SEAT AND FELT AN INCREASE OF HEAT ON BOTH OF HIS LEGS. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.

FUEL PUMP STOPS PUMPING, AND SCOOTER DIES. THEN YOU JUST WAIT AND WAIT UNTIL THE PUMP FINALLY SPINS UP AGAIN, THEN HOPE IT WILL PUMP LONG ENOUGH TO GET YOU HOME. IT IS A ROLL OF THE DICE, IF IT WILL RUN OR NOT RUN AT ANY GIVEN TIME. THERE IS A RECALL (15V066000) ON THE 2008 AND UP MODELS. MINE IS A 07 AND IS DOING THE SAME THING THAT THE OTHERS WERE RECALLED FOR. I DON'T WANT TO GET KILLED ON THIS WHEN IT STOPS WHILE YOU ARE IN TRAFFIC.
