97V060000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Storage:Tank Assembly
Reported: 1997-04-27 (April 27, 1997)
THE FUEL PUMP MOUNTING PLATE DOES NOT FULLY SEAL THE FUEL TANK ALLOWING FUEL LEAKAGE ONTO THE ENGINE.
Consequence: IF AN IGNITION SOURCE IS PRESENT, FUEL LEAKAGE ONTO THE ENGINE CAN RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ORIGINAL RUBBER SEAL WITH A REVISED SEAL THAT HAS METAL INSERTS SO THE PLATE CANNOT BE OVERTORQUED AND TO MORE EVENLY SPREAD THE LOAD ACROSS THE FACE OF THE SEAL.
