WIFE WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY IN SCOTTSDALE WHEN A SMALL ROCK IMPACTED LOWER LEFT OF WINDSHIELD. OVER THE PERIOD OF 2 HOURS A CRACK 3 FEET LONG DEVELOPED ACROSS DRIVERS SIDE OF WINDSHIELD. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING ON THE INTERNET FOR THE CAMRY HYBRID SINCE 2007. THIS APPEARS TO BE MANUFACTURERS DEFECT IN ENGINEERING DESIGN OR MANUFACTURE. THE MASTER POWER WINDOW SWITCH STARTED SMOKING WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ON 6/18/12. AT THE TIME, I WASN'T AWARE OF ANY ISSUES WITH THE POWER SWITCHES. SO MY FAMILY AND I JUMPED OUT THE CAR AND CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THEY DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND THE CAR TOWED TO TOYOTA. THE POWER SWITCH HAD BURNED UP AND SOME OF THE DOOR PANEL WAS BURNED AS WELL. WENT BACK TO GET MY CAR, AND THE BATTERY WENT OUT AS WELL. TODAY, 10/12/12, MY CAR IS STILL IN THE SHOP AT TOYOTA. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE ERRONEOUSLY ACCELERATED AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND, CAUSING IT TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE LEFT FOOT, RIGHT FOOT AND BRUISING TO THE CHEST. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHEN TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY ABOVE 60 MPH, THE CAR WANDERS AND IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. THE TOYOTA DEALER CHECKED THE ALIGNMENT ONCE, AND SLIGHTLY ADJUSTED IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER PARKED ON AN INCLINE, THE TRUNK LID WOULD NOT REMAIN OPEN. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD AND THE NOSE AS A RESULT TO THE ABRUPT CLOSURE OF THE TRUCK LID. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200.

Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain models interspersed through model years 2009 through 2013 as follows: model year 2009-2012 Tacoma, 4Runner, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Prius, and RAV4; model year 2009-2010 Avalon, FJ Cruiser, and Highlander Hybrid; model year 2010-2013 model year Corolla, Sienna and Tundra; model year 2009-2013 Highlander and Venza; model year 2012 Prius V; and model year 2010-2012 Sequoia. During modification by SET to include accessories such as leather seat covers, seat heaters or headrest DVD systems, these vehicles may not have had the passenger seat occupant sensing system calibration tested. Without passing the calibration test, the occupant sensing system may not operate as designed.
Consequence: If the front passenger seat occupant sensing system is out of calibration, the front passenger airbags may not deploy or they may deploy inappropriately for the passenger's size and position. This could increase the risk of personal injury during the event of a vehicle crash necessitating airbag deployment.
Remedy: Southeast Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will test the sensitivity of the occupant detection sensors, and recalibrate them as necessary. The recall began on March 21, 2013. Owners may contact Southeast Toyota at 1-800-301-6859.
