Owner report 10049057 · 2003-12-02 (December 2, 2003)
THE FUEL SCREENS IN THE '99 MODEL YEAR FUEL PUMP CLOG UP COMPLETELY CAUSING THE MOTORCYCLE TO STALL. THE SCREEN ON MY BIKE WAS REMOVED BY MY LOCAL DEALER AT MY INSISTANCE AND COST AND WAS COMPLETELY BLOCKED BY A COPPER COLORED RESIDUE. I HAD BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THE STALLING FOR THREE YEARS WITHOUT ANY RESOLUTION BEFORE I DEMANDED THAT THE SCREEN BE REPLACED. THIS ISSUE IS INCORRECTLY ADDRESSED BY A VOLUNTARY RECALL BY SUZUKI. THE VOLUNTARY RECALL REPLACES THE SCREENS INSIDE THE FUEL INJECTORS AND THE SCREEN INSIDE THE TANK BUT NOT THE SCR…

A LARGE NUMBER OF REPORTS OF THIS COMPONENT FAILING ON 1999 & 2000 MODELS HAS GENERATED MY CONCERN. FAILURES HAVE BEEN REPORTED SINCE 1999 AND SUZUKI HAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED A PROBLEM. OWNERS OF THESE MODEL YEARS SUZUKI GSX1300R MOTORCYCLES NEED TO BE MADE AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL FAILURE OF THE SUBFRAME UNDER NORMAL USAGE. REPORTS HAVE BEEN MADE THAT A UK BASED ENGINEERING CONSULTING FIRM HAS EXAMINED THREE INDIVIDUAL SUBFRAMES FROM THESE MODEL YEAR GSX1300R'S AND PRONOUNCED THEM "NOT FIT FOR THEIR DESIGNATED PURPOSE". PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISS…

THERE HAVE BEEN MANY REPORTS OF SUBFRAMES FAILING (BREAKING AT THE WELD) ON 1999 AND 2000 SUZUKI, HAYABUSA MOTORCYCLES. IN 2001 SUZUKI WENT TO STEEL SUBFRAMES RATHER THAN THE ALUMINUM SUBFRAMES OF THE EARLIER MODELS. SOME FAILURES HAVE CAUSED ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES. SUZUKI DOES NOT SEEM TO WANT TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM FOR THE OWNERS OF 99 AND 00 YEAR MODELS.*AK

Recall history
1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
00V319000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine
Reported: 2000-10-11 (October 11, 2000)
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE SPRING IN THE CAM CHAIN TENSION ADJUSTER CAN BREAK. EXCESSIVE SLACK WILL DEVELOP IN THE CAM CHAIN, ALLOWING THE CHAIN TO JUMP TO THE WRONG POSITION ON THE CAM SHAFT SPROCKETS.
Consequence: SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE COULD OCCUR, CAUSING SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ORIGINAL CAM CHAIN TENSION ADJUSTER, OR THE FIRST GENERATION RECALL TENSION ADJUSTER, WITH A NEW OIL-DAMPED RATCHET-TYPE CAM CHAIN TENSION ADJUSTER. DEALERS WILL ALSO INSTALL A NEW TENSION ADJUSTER OIL SUPPLY HOSE AND A NEW CAM CHAIN GUIDE.
