Owner report 10206502 · 2007-10-22 (October 22, 2007)

THIS IS FOR A 2007 PIAGGIO BV500 SCOOTER. THE SCOOTER HAS A TENDENCY TO STALL AT IDLE OR LOW SPEEDS. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM RELATED TO THE FUEL PUMP. IT IS CREATING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. I HAD A VERY CLOSE CALL WHERE THE SCOOTER STALLED WHILE MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BEFORE ENTERING THE ROAD. *JB

Owner report 10383362 · 2011-02-20 (February 20, 2011)

PIAGGIO BV500 THROTTLE CABLE FREEZES WHEN TEMPERATURE IS BELOW 30 DEGREES. THE CABLE MAY GET STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION(FULL OR PARTIAL SPEED) WHILE MOVING SHORTLY AFTER MOVING THE BIKE. I HAVE WAITED 15-20 MINUTES FOR THE CABLE TO DEFROST AS IT IS ABOVE THE RADIATOR, AND DRIVEN A FEW BLOCKS AND THE CABLE REFROZE AS THE WIND COOLED OFF THE CABLE. VERY DANGEROUS! BE CAREFUL OUT THERE. *TR

Recall history

1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

09V188000 · Fuel System, Other:Delivery:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings

Reported: 2009-06-02 (June 2, 2009)

PIAGGIO IS RECALLING 2,428 MY 2006-2008 BV 500 AND MY 2005-2007 X9 500 SCOOTERS. THE FUEL HOSE CONNECTING THE FUEL FILTER TO THE FUEL PUMP MAY COME LOOSE. IF THIS FUEL HOSE CONNECTION IS LOOSE, OR HAS BECOME COMPLETELY DISCONNECTED, THEN THERE WILL BE A DROP IN, OR LOSS OF, FUEL PRESSURE TO THE ENGINE.

Consequence: LOSS OF FUEL PRESSURE AND ENGINE STALLING WILL INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH. A FUEL LEAK CAN ALSO RESULT IN A FIRE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE LENGTH OF FUEL HOSE CONNECTING THE FUEL PUMP TO THE FUEL FILTER FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 3, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PIAGGIO AT 1-212-380-4400.
