The contact owns a 2001 Panoz Esperante Roadster. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the steering wheel disengaged from the chassis without warning. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it remained. The mechanic stated that the steering wheel sheared off from the vehicle. The cause of the failure was unknown. The contact attempted to reach the manufacturer had not yet received a response. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
