THE VEHICLE, A 1991 SAFARI SERENGETI (M3450), WAS RECENTLY PARKED WITH A REDUCED LOAD ON THE DRIVE AXLE (BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT LEVELING JACK PARTIALLY EXTENDED). WHILE PERFORMING OTHER SERVICE WORK, A SIGNIFICANT (SOFTBALL-SIZED) BULGE WAS NOTICED ON THE SIDEWALL OF THE INNER RIGHT REAR TIRE ON THE RV. TIRES (ALL 6) HAVE EVEN TREAD WEAR, LESS THAN 10,000 MILES ON THEM, AND WERE MANUFACTURED WITH DATE CODE 4903--THEY SHOW NO SIGNS OF DRY-ROT/CRACKING/WEATHER EXPOSURE. 92V022000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings
Reported: 1992-02-25 (February 25, 1992)
THE FRONT BRAKE LINE HAS A POSSIBLE ASSEMBLY ERROR IN WHICH THERE IS INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE BRAKE LINE AND THE POWER STEERING MOUNTING BRACKET.
Consequence: PROLONGED INTERFERENCE CONDITIONS MAY RESULT IN A FAILUREOF THE FRONT BRAKE LINE, RESULTING IN LOSS OF BRAKING POWER TO THE FRONT WHEELS.
Remedy: REPAIR TO ASSURE MINIMUM CLEARANCE BETWEEN BRAKE LINE AND POWER STEERING MOUNTING BRACKET; OR, IF NECESSARY, INSTALL NEW BRAKE LINE THAT WILL ALLEVIATE ANY POSSIBILITY OF INTERFERENCE.
