Owner report 10215881 · 2008-01-24 (January 24, 2008)
I AM WRITING YOU WITH A CONCERN REGARDING A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH MY 1992 NISSAN NX WHICH I BOUGHT NEW IN 1991. LAST FRIDAY I WAS RIDING ON THE BELT PARKWAY IN BROOKLYN WHEN ANOTHER DRIVER DROVE UP ALONGSIDE ME TO TELL ME THAT MY SPARE TIRE HAD JUST FALLEN OUT OF MY TRUNK. I WAS COMPLETELY STARTLED AS THERE COULD HAVE BEEN SOME MAJOR ACCIDENTS. I PULLED MY CAR OVER AND OPENED THE TRUNK AND FOUND THAT THE WHOLE TRUNK HAD RUSTED THROUGH. I WAS PRETTY SHOOK UP AS I CONTEMPLATED HOW LUCKY I WAS THAT THERE WAS NO ACCIDENTS. I THEN BECAME VERY ANGRY …

Recall history
1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
97V071000 · Seat Belts:Rear/Other
Reported: 1997-04-22 (April 22, 1997)
THE RELEASE BUTTON USED IN THE REAR SEAT BELT BUCKLES WERE NOT MADE ACCORDING TO SPECIFICATIONS. IN HOT WEATHER, THE PLASTIC WELDS SECURING THE RELEASE BUTTON TO THE SPRING CAN FAIL RESULTING IN PARTIAL ENGAGEMENT OF THE SEAT BELT TONGUE IN THE BUCKLE OR NOT BEING ABLE TO LATCH THE SEAT BELT.
Consequence: IF A PARTIAL ENGAGEMENT OCCURS, THIS CAN CAUSE THE SEAT BELT TONGUE TO COME OUT OF THE BUCKLE IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH OR HARD BRAKING OF THE VEHICLE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE ALL REAR SEAT BELT BUCKLES WITH NEW SEAT BELT BUCKLES.
