Owner report 10016518 · 2003-04-26 (April 26, 2003)
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2003 MERCURY SABLE LS AND PRIOR TO LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP IN PHILADELPHIA I NOTICED THE FRONT WINDSHIELD DID NOT HAVE THE FACTORY TINT GLASS WHICH WAS STATED ON THE WINDOW STICKER AND WINDSHIELD AS HAVING TINTED GLASS. I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE WITH THE SALES PERSON,SALES MANAGER & SERVICE MANAGER AND AFTER COMPARING OTHER SABLES OF 2003 IN THE LOT, ALL STATED IN THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AS HAVING THE TINT BUT SOME DID NOT APPEAR AS HAVING THE DARKER BAND RUNNING ACROSS THE TOP OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. NO ONE COU…

CONSUMER HAS PROBLEMS SEEING THROUGH WINDSHIELD WHEN THE SUN IS SHINING. THE REFLECTION IS SO BAD THAT IT DISTORTS VISION. WHEN LOOKING THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD, INSTEAD OF SEEING WHAT IS ON THE OUTSIDE, THE CONSUMER SEES THE REFLECTION OF THE DASHBOARD. THE REFLECTION IS VERY STRONG. *AK *TS *NLM

Owner report 10043120 · 2003-10-17 (October 17, 2003)
2003 MERCURY SABLE WITH 20,000 MILES ON IT. WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR TO PASS A TRUCK, I HEARD A THUMP AND THEN THE ENGINE WENT TO IDLE AND WE LOST ALL POWER. WE PULLED OVER AND FOUND THAT THE ACCELERATOR CABLE HAD SNAPPED. I FOUND A SMALL PIECE OF PLASTIC ON THE FLOOR THAT CAME FROM THE MECHANISM. WE WERE STRANDED 100 MILES FROM THE NEAREST CITY ON A SUNDAY NIGHT. I SUBSEQUENTLY ASKED THE RENTAL CAR MANAGER IF HE HAD EVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE AND HE SAID THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO A TAURUS HE WAS DRIVING. TH…

Recall history
3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
03V087000 · Visibility:Windshield
Reported: 2003-03-10 (March 10, 2003)
CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 212, "WINDSHIELD MOUNTING." THE WINDSHIELDS MAY POTENTIALLY EXHIBIT INCREASED WIND NOISE, WATER LEAKAGE, AND SQUEAKS AND RATTLES.
Consequence: POTENTIAL LOSS OF WINDSHIELD RETENTION MAY ALSO REDUCE OCCUPANT PROTECTION IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THESE WINDSHIELDS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON MARCH 31, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT FORD/MERCURY AT 1-800-392-3673.
NHTSA campaign record ↗04V105000 · Engine And Engine Cooling
Reported: 2004-03-02 (March 2, 2004)
ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE AIR FILTER PAPER IN THESE VEHICLES CAN SMOLDER OR BURN.
Consequence: THIS CAN LEAD TO DAMAGE TO THE AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM ON THESE VEHICLES AND/OR AN UNDERHOOD FIRE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE AIR FILTER ELEMENT. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON MARCH 10, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673.
NHTSA campaign record ↗04V106000 · Exterior Lighting:Brake Lights:Switch
Reported: 2004-03-02 (March 2, 2004)
CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES ARE BEING RECALLED TO CORRECT A PROBLEM WITH A MALFUNCTIONING STOP LAMP SWITCH AND/OR ASSOCIATED WIRING. THIS MALFUNCTIONING COULD RENDER THE STOP LAMPS INOPERABLE OR CAUSE THEM TO STAY ON ALL THE TIME. THIS COULD CAUSE CONFUSION TO A FOLLOWING DRIVER, WHICH COULD LEAD TO A CRASH.
Consequence: IN ADDITION, IF THE SWITCH AND/OR ASSOCIATED WIRING FAIL IN THE OPEN POSITION, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL NOT ACTUATE AND THE DRIVER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE OUT OF "PARK" IF THEY FAIL IN THE CLOSED POSITION, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL REMAIN ON, WHICH WILL NOT ALLOW THE SPEED CONTROL TO BE ACTIVATED. THIS COULD ALSO CAUSE THE BATTERY TO DISCHARGE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE STOP LAMP SWITCH AND ASSOCIATED WIRING ASSEMBLY AND INSTALL A NEWLY DESIGNED STOP LAMP SWITCH AND WIRE ASSEMBLY. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON APRIL 5, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673.
