2017 Maserati LEVANTE: complaints, problems and recalls

BOUGHT THE 2017 LEVANTE IN JUNE 2017 AND SINCE SEPTEMBER 2017, HAVE EXPERIENCE MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES OF THE VEHICLE "POPPING" INTO NEUTRAL WHILE EITHER IN DRIVE OR REVERSE AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP/SERVICE MANAGER IS AWARE AND HAS ON RECORD, THEY'VE EXPERIENCE THE ISSUE FIRST HAND. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 MASERATI LEVANTE. WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL OR PARK AUTOMATICALLY. I purchased the car in January of 2021 and within 3 weeks, the car began to shut-off while I was driving. This happened regardless of the speed traveled. For example, I was slowing down to park and the car shut-off, I was approaching the highway, and less than 100 feet from the highway entrance, the car shut down. When driving and approaching a stop at under 20 miles per hour, the brakes will fail and reverberate making a recoiling sound if I hit a bump or small pothole in the road. At that time, I loose control of the car because all braking systems fail. The car will continue to roll out of my control. There are no warning lights and the emergency brake also fails at this time. It is through the grace of God that I do not run into a person, auto or property. While driving my 2017 maserati levante going less than 20mph I notice the road was bumpy and tried to slow down and the brakes didn't respond. It felt like I was losing control of the car I continue to pump the brakes and it made this loud sound and then car skid to a stop. Thank god no car or person was in front of me. At slow speeds or when stopped vehicle shifts from drive into neutral by itself. Transmission May Shift into Neutral If the transmission unexpectedly shifts to neutral, or the engine shuts down, there is an increased risk of a crash. The contact stated that the issues still persist today and have almost caused two accidents.

Reported: 2016-11-18 (November 18, 2016)

Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) is recalling certain model year 2017 Quattroporte, Ghible, and Levante vehicles manufactured July 1, 2016, to November 14, 2016. In temperatures below freezing, the entertainment telematics module (ETM) may place itself in a protection mode, disabling the back-up camera.

Consequence: If the back-up camera is inoperable, it may be more difficult for the operator to see people or objects behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or crash.

Remedy: Maserati will notify owners, and dealers will update the ETM software, free of charge. The recall began on December 30, 2016. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737. Maserati's number for this recall is 327.

Reported: 2017-01-20 (January 20, 2017)

Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Quattroporte and Ghibli, and 2017 Levante vehicles. Adjusting the front seats may cause the seat wiring harness to rub, possibly resulting in an electrical short.

Consequence: An electrical short can increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Maserati will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles, replacing the seat wiring harness, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began June 26, 2017. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737. Maserati's number for this recall is 342.

Reported: 2017-03-13 (March 13, 2017)

Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) is recalling certain 2017 Levante vehicles. Due to an engine software problem, at slow speeds such as stop-and-go traffic, the transmission may unexpectedly shift into neutral or the engine may shut off.

Consequence: If the transmission shifts into neutral unexpectedly or if the engine shuts down without warning, it can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Maserati will notify owners, and dealers will update the engine control module software, free of charge. The recall began March 31, 2017. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737.
