2001 FORD 550 SHUTTLE BUS, MANUFACTURED BY KRYSTAL KOACH PURCHASED IN MARCH 2007. THIS 26 PASSENGER BUS CAME FROM KRYSTAL WITH REAR CHASSIS(AIR RIDE, INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION) SINGLE WHEELS OUT OF LINE. ALL MECHANISM WELDED IN PLACE, THUS NO ADJUSTMENTS. THIS BUS HAD ONLY 4800 MILES ON IT WHEN WE PURCHASED IT IN MARCH 2007. HAD BLOWOUT ON TIRE WITH ONLY FEW MILES ON TIRE DUE TO ALIGNMENT. ALL OTHER TIRES WERE WEARING PREMATURELY. AFTER SPENDING APPROXIMATELY 4000 DOLLARS TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM,(INCLUDED REPLACING TRUNNIONS. BUSHINGS,ETC.) WE…

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN BUSES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 120, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES OTHER THAN PASSENGER CARS." THE TIRE PLACARD LABEL CONTAINS AN INCORRECT RECOMMENDED COLD TIRE INFLATION PRESSURE OF 60 OR 65 PSI. THE CORRECT INFLATION PRESSURE IS 80 PSI.
Consequence: IF THE TIRES ARE UNDER-INFLATED, IT COULD REDUCE THE TREAD LIFE OF THE TIRE, AND THE TIRE COULD DEGRADE TO A POINT OF ALLOWING SUDDEN AIR LOSS.
Remedy: NEW LABELS WILL BE PROVIDED TO THE OWNERS. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING DECEMBER 2001. OWNERS WHO DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE LABEL WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT KRYSTAL AT 1-800-845-4883.
