I OWNED A PLYMOUTH VOYAGER SEVERAL YEARS AGO. I EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER, LIKE THE VAN JUST SHUT OFF AND MY STEERING LOCKED WHILE TRAVELING AT A SLOW SPEED. THE MAIN INCIDENT THAT I REMEMBER HAPPENED WHEN I WAS GOING THROUGH A MAJOR INTERSECTION. I TOOK THE VAN INTO THE LOCAL DEALER BUT WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM GM IS BEING INVESTIGATED FOR ON SOME OF ITS CARS. I AM ONLY ESTIMATING ON THE YEAR AND DATES. *TR

Reported: 1995-04-05 (April 5, 1995)

DURING TESTING OF FMVSS NO. 207, "SEATING SYSTEMS," THE SEAT BASE DEFORMS ALLOWING THE SEAT BACK ANCHORAGES TO DETACH FROM THE FLOOR. THIS DOES NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 207.

Consequence: CONSEQUENCE OF NON-COMPLIANCE: OCCUPANTS IN SEATS THAT DO NO MEET THE MINIMUM LOAD REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS 207 ARE SUBJECT TO INCREASED RISK OF INJURY IN A SUDDENT STOP OR ACCIDENT.

Remedy: INDEPENDENT MOBILITY SYSTEMS DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SEAT BASE EXTENSION WITH A REDESIGNED SEAT BASE EXTENSION.
