ON DECEMBER 15, 2005 I PURCHASED A 2006 HYUNDAI TIBURON GT. AFTER ONLY 2500 MILES THE CLUTCH WENT OUT. I HAVE PLENTY OF EXPERIENCE DRIVING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, SO THEY COULDN'T BLAME ME FOR RIDING THE CLUTCH. I'M NOW AT 5400 MILES AND THE CLUTCH HAS GONE OUT AGAIN. THERE IS NO REASON FOR THIS, IT JUST CAUSES ME FRUSTRATION, AND MONEY THAT I PAY FOR A CAR THAT DOESN'T WORK. *JB

Owner report 10167115 · 2006-08-30 (August 30, 2006)
ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 25, 2006 MY SON WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO TURN LEFT AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP AND HE HAD NO CONTROL AND COULD NOT GET HIS CAR TO STOP AND HE HIT A TREE. HE AND HIS PASSENGER WERE FORTUNATELY WEARING THEIR SEAT BELTS AND DID NOT GET THROWN OUT OF THE CAR. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT EVEN DEPLOY. NONE OF THEM. CAR TAKEN TO BODY SHOP FOR REPAIR AS IT WAS UNDRIVEABLE. DRIVER AND PASSENGER DID NOT GO TO ER, HOWEVER, THEY DID HAVE WHIPLASH-TYPE INJURIES AND PASSENGER JAMMED HIS FINGER. *NM

Owner report 10167952 · 2006-09-12 (September 12, 2006)
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED A STEADY VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS FELT AROUND 62 MPH. AFTER THE TIRES WERE ROAD FORCE BALANCED AND ROTATED, THE TIRES DID NOT HAVE THE SAME PSI READING. THE REAR TIRES HAD AN INCORRECT PSI READING. ONE HAD A PSI OF 22 AND THE OTHER HAD A PSI OF 5. ONE SERVICE CENTER DEALER DETERMINED THE RECOMMENDED PSI FOR ROAD FORCE BALANCED TIRES SHOULD BE 12-15. THE DEALER DETERMINED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TIRES. THE TIRES WERE MICHELIN PILOT 215/45/R17. MX4. DOT NUMBER: EDN0.

Owner report 10168981 · 2006-09-22 (September 22, 2006)
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A HYUNDAI TIBURON 2006. AT 3500 MILES THE CLUTCH HAS GONE OUT, COMPLETELY. I HAVE OWNED APPROXIMATELY 4 STICK SHIFTS AND HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE A STICK FOR 20 YEARS. TWO OF THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES I OWNED (ONE A SATURN, THE OTHER AN AUDI) HAD MORE THAN 100K ON THEM WHEN I SOLD OR REPLACED THEM. THE DEALERSHIP IS REPLACING THE CLUTCH FOR FREE, BUT I AM CONCERNED, AFTER READING OF SIMILAR AND NUMEROUS OTHER STORIES ON THE WEB, THAT THIS WILL BE A CONTINUAL PROBLEM. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE FRONT DRIVER TIRE CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE WIRING HARNESS. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED OFF THE ROAD. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE TIRE AND THE WIRING HARNESS. NO TIRE INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE. UPDATED 2/12/2007 - *NM

Owner report 10172808 · 2006-11-07 (November 7, 2006)
CAR STARTED TO HAVE A CLUTCH PEDAL PROBLEM AROUND 5000 MILES, SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. THEN AT ABOUT 10,000 MILES THE CLUTCH BEGAN SLIPPING SO I TOOK IT ONCE AGAIN TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID "YEP THE CLUTCH IS PRETTY WORN OUT IT SHOULD BE REPLACED BUT WE AREN'T SURE IF IT WILL BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY" SO THEY TOLD ME I NEED TO AUTHORIZE THE PAYMENT FOR THE CLUTCH REPAIR WHICH WAS $1100. WELL I AM A COLLEGE STUDENT AND WORKING TO OWN THIS CAR AND I DIDN'T HAVE THE MONEY TO AUTHORIZE THAT SO …

I HAVE A 2006 TIBURON AND HAVE ALREADY HAD TO HAVE IT IN THE SHOP FOUR TIMES. FOR THE SUNROOF, WHICH STILL DOES NOT WORK RIGHT AND THE TRANSMISSION. NOW IT IS STARTING TO BE SLUGGISH AGAIN. I DON'T TRASH MY CAR OR HOT ROD IT EITHER. THE MOTOR IN THE SUNROOF HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE TRANSMISSION HAS JUST BEEN REPROGRAMMED EACH TIME SO WHO KNOWS WHAT WILL BE DONE THIS TIME. *NM

Recall history
1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
13V113000 · Exterior Lighting:Brake Lights:Switch
Reported: 2013-04-01 (April 1, 2013)
Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.
