TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HONDA VFR1200F MOTORCYCLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30-35 MPH, THE MOTORCYCLE APPEARED TO LOOSE POWER BEFORE ACCELERATING RAPIDLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER COMPLETING A TURN THE MOTORCYCLE STALLED. THE CONTACT RESOLVED THE FAILURE TEMPORARILY BY RESTARTING THE MOTORCYCLE. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. STUMBLING AND THEN SUDDEN SURGING IRRESPECTIVE OF THROTTLE POSITION HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER OVER SIX TIMES TO GET THIS CORRECTED AND HAVE SPOKEN TO HONDA USA MOTORCYCLE DIVISION. FINAL RESULT IS THAT THEY CAN OR WILL DO NOTHING UNTIL DEALER CAN HAVE IT HAPPEN TO THEM. AREA REP RODE BIKE FOR 40 MILES AND IT DID NOT HAPPEN AND DEALER HAS RIDDEN SEVERAL TIMES. APPLICATION OF THROTTLE MAY EITHER CAUSE THE BIKE TO STUTTER OR SURGE CAUSING THE BIKE TO EITHER STALL OR INCREASE ITS FORWARD MOTION. THE IDLE SPEED IS SOMETIMES INAPPROPRIATELY SET AT 1500 RPMS WITH THE CLUTCH IN AND THE THROTTLE ROLLED ALL THE WAY FORWARD. IT CAN BE 300 MILES BETWEEN INCIDENTS. I HAD A VERY SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH MY YAMAHA R1 THAT WAS FIXED BY A FACTORY RECALL AND REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. OTHER VFR1200 OWNERS ARE REPORTING THIS SAME PROBLEM AND THERE IS CURRENTLY NO FIX AT HONDA DEALERS. *TR

REAR BRAKE LIGHT IS IN-OPERABLE DUE TO FRONT BRAKE SWITCH FAILURE. RIDER MUST USE FOOT BRAKE FOR VEHICLES BEHIND HIM TO SEE HE IS BRAKING AT 65 MPH. RIDER CAN ONLY DETERMINE BRAKE SWITCH IS OPERABLE WHEN MOTORCYCLE IS INITIALLY CHECKED AT START-UP. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT WHEN SWITCH BEGINS TO FAIL, SO CHECK AT START-UP IS NOT CONCLUSIVE. *TR

15V821000 · Power Train:Driveline:Universal Joint

Reported: 2015-12-07 (December 7, 2015)

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2010, 2012 and 2013 VFR1200F and VFR1200FD motorcycles. Manufacturing or assembly errors may result in the affected motorcycles having driveshaft universal joint bearings that may prematurely wear which can cause the universal joint to separate or break.

Consequence: If the universal joint separates, the motorcycle would stall. If the universal joint breaks, it may interfere with the swing arm and lock the rear wheel. Either condition could increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Honda will be notify owners, and dealers will replace the driveshaft, free of charge. The recall began on December 29, 2015, however parts may not be available until mid-2016. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009. Honda's number for this recall is JW2.

24V864000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery:Fuel Pump

Reported: 2024-11-15 (November 15, 2024)

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2007, 2009-2017 CBR600RR, 2008-2017, 2021 CBR1000RR, and 2010, 2012-2013 VFR1200 motorcycles. The fuel pump impellers may have been improperly molded, which can cause them to deform and result in fuel pump failure.

Consequence: Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the fuel pump module as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed January 3, 2025. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-866-784-1870. Honda's numbers for this recall are KR2, KR3, KR4 and KR5. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recall number 24V-113.
