The contact owns a 2023 Honda CMX500 Motorcycle. The contact stated that while riding at an undisclosed speed, the rear brake pedal was depressed, but the rear brakes failed to engage to stop the motorcycle. The contact regained control of the motorcycle and rode to the dealer; however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The dealer replaced the ABS and calipers, but the failure recurred. 26V146000 · Steering: Steering Wheel/Handle Bar | Steering:Critical Fasteners
Reported: 2026-03-12 (March 12, 2026)
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2023-2025 CMX300, CMX500, and CL500 motorcycles. The handlebar lock screw may loosen and detach.
Consequence: A detached screw may lodge between the frame and stem, interfering with steering and increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the lock screw and apply thread lock, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 15, 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-866-784-1870. Honda's number for this recall is KUO. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning March 21, 2026.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2023, 2025 CMX500, 2017-2023, 2025-2026 CMX300, and 2025 Honda SCL500 motorcycles. The handlebar lock screw may loosen and detach.
Consequence: A detached screw may lodge between the frame and stem, interfering with steering and increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the lock screw and apply thread lock, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed September 21, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated in Winter 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-866-784-1870. Honda's number for this recall is KUO. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 26V146. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning August 4, 2026.
