I PURCHASED A HONDA CBR600F4I FROM SPORTLAND 2 IN OAK CREEK, WI NEW IN JUNE OF 2001. AT 5000 MILES THE CAM CHAIN TENSIONER STARTED MAKING NOISE AND I TOOK THE BIKE INTO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT SPORTLAND 2 TO EVALUATE. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED IT WAS THE CAM CHAIN TENSIONER AND HONDA WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THEM GOING BAD DUE TO PREMATURE DESIGN. MOTORCYCLE LOST POWER. I DISCONTIUED RIDING AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. DEALER TORE DOWN ENGINE AND SAID THAT A ROD BEARING IN THE FAR RIGHT CYLINDER HAD GONE BAD DOING DAMAGE TO THE ONE CYLINDER. THE SHOP ESTIMATED REPAIRS AT OVER $2000. MY BIKE HAD JUST BROKE 7000 MILES AND WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW IN MAY OF 01. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD DO NOTHING TO HELP ME AND THERE WAS NO WARRANTY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2001 HONDA CBR600F4I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH HE RELEASED THE CLUTCH ON THE VEHICLE AND THE ALTERNATOR PLATE BLEW UP AND HIT THE HIM IN THE FACE KNOCKING HIM OUT. THE CONTACT SUFFERED A SEVERE INJURY TO THE HEAD CAUSING AND A CONCUSSION. THE CONTACT WAS TREATED FOR HIS INJURIES AT THE HOSPITAL. A WEEK BEFORE THE INCIDENT THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED AT A DEALER WHO DID NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE.
