TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 5TH WHEEL 2005 HEARTLAND LANDMARK GRAND CANYON RV. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON DECEMBER 21, 2006. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME NOTICED WATER COMING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE CAMPER, AND IT WAS SAGGING FROM THE BOTTOM. THE CONTACT SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT ON JANUARY 6, 2007. THE DEALER NOTICED THE 5TH WHEEL FRAME WAS CRACKED AND STATED THAT THE CRACK WAS IN THE I-BEAM OF THE FRAME. THE RV DEALER WOULD NOT GIVE REFUNDS, NOR DID HE WANT A NON RESALABLE CAMPER ON HIS LOT. Reported: 2006-02-10 (February 10, 2006)
ON CERTAIN PULL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH AIR RIDE SUSPENSIONS, THE INTEGRITY OF THE WELD SEQUENCING COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN CRACKING AT THE REAR OF THE SUSPENSION FRAME.
Consequence: SUCH A CRACK, IF LEFT UNATTENDED COULD PROGRESS TO AN ABRUPT FAILURE IN THE DOLLY FRAME. FAILURE TO HAVE THE UNIT UPGRADED COULD RESULT IN A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL UPGRADE THE WELDING WHICH INVOLVES THE ADDITION OF A STEEL BAR TO REINFORCE THE FRAME STRUCTURE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 16, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HEIL AT 1-800-400-6913, EXTENSION 353 OR 574.
