Owner report 10344680 · 2010-07-22 (July 22, 2010)
DURING NORMAL OPERATION OF MY HARLEY DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLE, THE FAULTY FUEL GAUGE CHRONICALLY DISPLAYS HIGHER LEVEL OF FUEL THAN WHAT IS REALLY THERE. FAILURE OCCURS MORE TIMES THAN NOT. I HAD THE FUEL SENDING UNIT (SONAR) REPLACED USING MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH COST ME $50 OUT OF POCKET. THE NEW DEVICE WORKED FOR APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES BEFORE FAILING AGAIN. HD HAS UPDATED THE PART NUMBER (3X), BUT NO ACTUAL REPAIR OR CORRECTION TO THE FAULTY UNIT DEVELOPED. LATEST "FIX" INSTALLS AN ALGORITHM THAT PREVENTS THE FUEL LEVEL FROM REGISTERING UNL…

THIS IS PERTAINING TO THE FUEL SENDING UNIT/FUEL GAUGE ON A 2007 VRSCAW. GAUGE STARTED ACTING ERRATIC AT ABOUT 2000 MILES. AFTER FILL WOULD READ FINE AND THEN ABOUT 3/4 TO 1/2 TANK I WOULD SLOWLY SEE THE NEEDLE DROP TO EMPTY AND THEN RAISE BACK UP TO WHATEVER IT CHOSE. HAD SENDING UNIT REPLACED WITH WHAT THE CURRENT REVISION WAS AT THE TIME. WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT 2000 TO 3000 MILES AND DID THE SAME THING. AS OF NOW, THERE IS NO NEW REVISION. THIS IS A FUEL GAUGE, SOMETHING THAT VEHICLES HAVE HAD FOR DECADES, THIS SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM. HOWEVE…
