THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS FAILURES OF THE ENGINE CAM BEARINGS IN 1999 TWIN CAM MOTORS WHICH IS A NEW DESIGN FROM HARLEY DAVIDSON. HARLEY DAVIDSON HAS SINCE REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE BEARINGS WITH A STRONGER ONE, HOWEVER, THE REFUSE TO RECALL MOTORS WITH THE BAD BEARINGS IN THEM UNLESS THE CUSTOMER PAYS FOR THE FIX. IF THE BEARINGS FAIL WHILE THE MOTORCYCLE IS RUNNING, THE REAR WHEEL COULD LOCK UP AND CAUSE SEVERE INJURY AND OR DEATH TO THE RIDER, PASSENGER, AND OTHER MOTORISTS. 04V134000 · Electrical System:Wiring:Fuses And Circuit Breakers
Reported: 2004-03-18 (March 18, 2004)
ON CERTAIN TOURING AND POLICE MODEL MOTORCYCLES, THE 40 AMP MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER CAN "OPEN" FOR REASONS OTHER THAN WHICH IT WAS DESIGNED, CAUSING AN UNEXPECTED INTERRUPTION OF ALL ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE MOTORCYCLE.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE THE MOTORCYCLE TO STALL, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CIRCUIT BREAKER. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN APRIL 23, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HARLEY-DAVIDSON AT 1-414-343-4056.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES. THE ENGINE CAM BOLT CAN LOSE ITS CLAMP LOAD AND/OR BREAK.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO QUIT RUNNING WITH OR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. IN SOME INSTANCES, THE ENGINE COULD RUN ERRATICALLY BEFORE QUITTING.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ENGINE CAM BOLTS AND WASHERS.
