THIS COMPLAINT WAS RELATED TO A WARRANTY REPAIR ITEM ON A KNOWN DEFECTIVE PART FROM HARLEY-DAVIDISON TWIN CAM MOTORS 1999 - 2000. REAR CAM BEARING FAILURE. IN 08/2006 I PURCHASED A 1999 FLHTCUI WITH 6000 MILES. HARLEY DID A WARRANTY REPAIR ON THESE MOTORCYCLES UP TO 50000 MILES OR 5 YEARS. THE PREVIOUS OWNER DID NOT BRING THE MOTORCYCLE TO DEALER FOR REPAIR OF DEFECTIVE PART. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 1999 HARLEY-DAVIDSON ELECTRA GLIDE ULTRA FLHTCUI. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE MOTORCYCLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL AND FLIPPED THE MOTORCYCLE. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER WERE INJURED, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR 7500 MILE SERVICE PRIOR TO TAKING A TRIP, WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY IN HANDLING, STOPPED AT A HD DEALER AND WHILE CHECKING BIKE THEY FOUND THAT THE REAR TIRE WAS DANGEROUSLY WORN, CONSUMER CHECKED THE 7500 MILE SERVICE RECORD WHICH STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE CHECKED FOR PRESSURE WEAR AND DAMAGE, CONSUMER CONCERNED IF OTHER SERVICES WERE CHECKED COMPLETED WHEN THEY WERE NOT. Reported: 2004-03-18 (March 18, 2004)
ON CERTAIN TOURING AND POLICE MODEL MOTORCYCLES, THE 40 AMP MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER CAN "OPEN" FOR REASONS OTHER THAN WHICH IT WAS DESIGNED, CAUSING AN UNEXPECTED INTERRUPTION OF ALL ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE MOTORCYCLE.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE THE MOTORCYCLE TO STALL, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CIRCUIT BREAKER. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN APRIL 23, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HARLEY-DAVIDSON AT 1-414-343-4056.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES. THE ENGINE CAM BOLT CAN LOSE ITS CLAMP LOAD AND/OR BREAK.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO QUIT RUNNING WITH OR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. IN SOME INSTANCES, THE ENGINE COULD RUN ERRATICALLY BEFORE QUITTING.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ENGINE CAM BOLTS AND WASHERS.
