WHILE RIDING MY MOTORCYCLE FROM MAHWAH, NJ TO PAINTED POST, NY, THE TOUR -PAK (TRUNK) CAUGHT ON FIRE. I STOPPED AND OPENED THE TOUR -PAK. AFTER THE SMOKE CLEARED, I DISCOVERED THAT THE INTERIOR TOUR-PAK LIGHT HAD MELTED THE LENS, BURNED THROUGH THE TOUR-PAK LINER, AND BURNED A HOLE IN MY $75.00 SPORT SHIRT. I DISCONNECTED THE CONNECTOR, AND PROCEEDED ON MY TRIP. WHEN I RETURNED 3 DAYS LATER, I DID A SEARCH ON MY COMPUTER AND DISCOVERED A SERVICE BULLETIN FROM HARLEY-DAVIDSON, WHICH IDENTIFIED A DEFECTIVE "STICKING" SWITCH, WHICH CAUSES THE…

05V428000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings
Reported: 2005-09-22 (September 22, 2005)
CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES MAY HAVE FRONT BRAKE LINES WHICH COULD LEAK DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT.
Consequence: SHOULD THIS COMPONENT FAIL WHEN IN USE ON THE MOTORCYCLE, ALL FUNCTIONALITY OF THE FRONT BRAKE SYSTEM WOULD BE LOST WITHOUT WARNING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FRONT BRAKE LINE AND REPLACE IF THE BRAZE IS NOT VISIBLE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 10, 2005. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HARLEY-DAVIDSON AT 1-414-343-4056.
