COLD MORNING STARTS, ENG: 7.3DIESEL. PROBLEM STARTED AROUND DEC. 31,2001. ON FIRST START ENG. IS SLOW TO START, WHEN IT DOES START IT GOES FROM 300RPM TO 1200RPM ABOUT THREE TIMES AND THEN SETTLES DOWN ON 800RPM'S AND RUNS OK. THE VEH. HAS BEEN IN APPROX. 4 OR 5 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING (THROW OUT BEARING) ACTUATOR ARM FAILURE RESULTING IN MOVEMENT OF VEHICLE WHILE CLUTCH PEDAL IS DEPRESSED THIS IS THE SECOND FAILURE OF THE SUBJECT PART IN THE LIFE OF THIS SERIAL NUMBER TRUCK. THE FIRST OCCURRED AT APX. 37,000 MILES; THE SECOND AT APX. 95,000 MILES. BOTH REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED USING OEM PARTS. I AM IN POSSESSION OF THE SECOND FAILED PART AND WILL MAKE IT AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION UPON REQUEST. THIS FAILURE IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS THE POWER TRAIN CAN NOT BE INTERRUPTED BY NORMAL MEANS. BOTH REAR INSIDE TIRES WENT FLAT AT THE SAME TIME. THE RIGHT TIRE HAD APPROX. 5390 MILES ON IT SINCE IT WAS THE SPARE FROM AN EARLIER BLOWOUT. THE LEFT TIRE HAD APPROX. 22875 MILES ON IT. 07V553000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine:Diesel

Reported: 2007-12-05 (December 5, 2007)

ON CERTAIN HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH 7.3L DIESEL ENGINES, THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR LOCATED ON THE ENGINE OF THE VEHICLE MAY FUNCTION INTERMITTENTLY, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN AN ENGINE STALL.

Consequence: IN THE EVENT OF AN ENGINE STALL, A CRASH COULD RESULT WITHOUT WARNING.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE SENSOR AND REPLACE IT WITH AN IMPROVED CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 29, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-866-436-7332.

09V399000 · Vehicle Speed Control

Reported: 2009-10-13 (October 13, 2009)

FORD IS RECALLING MODEL YEARS 1995-2003 WINDSTAR, 2000-2003 EXCURSION DIESEL, 1993-1997 AND 1999-2003 F-250 SD THROUGH F-550 SD DIESEL, 1992-2003 E-150 THROUGH E-550, 1995-2002 EXPLORER, 1997 AND 2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER, 1995-1997 AND 2001-2003 RANGER, AND 1994 F53 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE TEXAS INSTRUMENTS SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (SCDS). THE SCDS MAY LEAK INTERNALLY AND THEN OVERHEAT, SMOKE, OR BURN.

Consequence: A VEHICLE FIRE COULD OCCUR WITH OR WITHOUT THE ENGINE RUNNING.

Remedy: FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS THAT DEALERS WILL INSTALL A FUSED WIRING HARNESS IN LINE WITH THE SCDS. ON 1999-2003 WINDSTAR VEHICLES WITH A LEAKING SCDS, DEALERS WILL ALSO INSPECT THE ABS CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR AND REPAIR AS NECESSARY. REPAIRS WILL BE COMPLETED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 27, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-888-222-2751.
