WELD BROKE ON WHEEL ON OUR RV AND DAMAGED THE DRIVER SIDE OF OUR 5TH WHEEL AND ROLLED DOWN THE ROAD THE ENTIRE CENTER OF THE WHEEL CAME UN WELDED ON AUGUST 9, 2009 WE WERE ON VACATION WITH OUR RV AND AS WE PULLED OUT OF A RV CAMP GROUND A WHEEL CAME OFF OUR 5TH.WHEEL AND OF COURSE DID SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE. FORTUNATELY WE WERE NOT ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 55MPH AND IT DID NOT DAMAGE ANYTHING BUT OUR COACH. THIS WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE WHEEL AS YOU WILL SEE FROM THE ENCLOSED PICTURE. THE PROBLEM IS THE MANUFACTURER TREDIT WHEEL AND TIRE OUT OF ELKA…

CERTAIN FIFTH WHEEL TRAVEL TRAILERS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF PART 567, 'CERTIFICATION.' THE GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT RATING (GVWR) IS INCORRECT.
Consequence: A MISPRINTED LABEL COULD LEAD TO IMPROPER VEHICLE LOADING OR TIRE INFLATION WHICH COULD RESULT IN TIRE FAILURE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: OWNERS WILL BE SENT CORRECT FEDERAL CERTIFICATION AND TRAILER WEIGHT INFORMATION TAGS AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. AN OWNER CAN HAVE THESE TAGS INSTALLED AT THEIR DEALERSHIP IF THEY DO NOT WANT TO INSTALL THE TAGS THEMSELVES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 24, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FLEETWOOD AT 1-800-445-3307.
