FROM 1996 UNTIL MID YEAR 2003 COLEMAN POP UP CAMPERS MAD BY FLEETWOOD USED AN ABS PLASTIC ROOF. THESE ROOFS ARE PRONE TO SAGGING, CRACKING AND DELAMINATION. THESE ROOFS HAD A SERIOUS MANUFACTURER DESIGN DEFECT. IN THE RAISED POSITION IF A COMPLETE FAILURE OCCURED GREAT BODILY INJURY OR DEATH MAY OCCUR.

Reported: 1999-10-20 (October 20, 1999)
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: RECREATIONAL VEHICLES USING GAS/ELECTRIC ABSORPTION REFRIGERATORS SUPPLIED BY NORCOLD. THE SWIVEL NUT WHICH IS AN INTEGRAL CONNECTION COMPONENT OF A PRESSURE TAP DEVICE HAS "STRESS CORROSION CRACKING."
Consequence: THIS CRACKING CAN LEAD TO AN OPEN FRACTURE IN THE BRASS NUT, POTENTIALLY ALLOWING PROPANE GAS TO LEAK.
Remedy: NORCOLD IS CONDUCTING THE NOTIFICATION AND REMEDY FOR THIS RECALL. DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE SWIVEL NUT/PRESSURE TAP COMPONENT AND REPLACE WITH A REMEDY KIT.
