TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DUCATI MULTISTRADA 620. THE CONTACT STATED HE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V020000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REMEDY OFFERED BY THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT SUFFICIENT ENOUGH TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. HE STATED THAT THE REMEDY WAS ONLY A TEMPORARY REPAIR TO THE FAILURE AND WOULD NOT ACTUALLY CORRECT THE ISSUE ITSELF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE REMEDY WAS AN ADEQUATE REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.…

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DUCATI MTS 620 MOTORCYCLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS EXPANDING TO THE POINT WHERE THE TANK WAS OVERLAPPING OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE FAILURE TO BE CAUSED BY ETHANOL IN THE FUEL THAT WAS CAUSING THE PLASTIC FUEL TANK TO EXPAND. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SEAT WAS INCORRECTLY SIZED. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,500.

Reported: 2011-01-24 (January 24, 2011)
DUCATI IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 MULTISTRADA 620, MODEL YEAR 2003-2006, MULTISTRADA 1000, AND MODEL YEAR 2007-2009, MULTISTRADA 1100 MOTORCYCLES. FUEL LEAKAGE CAN OCCUR AT THE FUEL TANK PUMP FLANGE SEAL.
Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP O-RING WITH AN UPDATED PART FREE OF CHARGE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DUCATI AT 800-231-6696.
