MY PLASTIC FUEL TANK IS UNSAFE. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND OPERATOR OF A 2007 DUCATI 1098S TRICOLORE SUPERBIKE. ALL REQUIRED MAINTENANCE SERVICES HAVE BEEN PERFORMED BY A FACTORY AUTHORIZED DUCATI DEALER. I WAS SHOCKED THAT DUCATI NORTH AMERICA HAS PLACED THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS AT RISK BY USING COST-CUTTING METHODS TO AUTHORIZE THE MANUFACTURE OF AN UNSAFE AND DEFECTIVE PLASTIC FUEL TANK. THE SHOCK CONTINUES AS DUCATI NORTH AMERICA HAS FAILED TO STEP UP AND OFFER THE REPLACEMENT OF A SAFE OEM METAL FUEL TANK TO RESOLVE THE ASSOCIA…

07V175000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Cooling System:Hoses/Lines/Piping/Fittings
Reported: 2007-04-24 (April 24, 2007)
ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE HORIZONTAL CYLINDER HEAD FITTING TO THE THERMOSTAT PRODUCED A COOLANT LEAKAGE.
Consequence: COOLANT LEAKAGE OVER THE REAR SUSPENSION AND WHEEL COULD CAUSE A CRASH.
Remedy: THE THERMOSTAT HOSE AND RELATIVE COUPLINGS WERE REPLACED. ALL MOTORCYCLES WERE CORRECTED BEFORE RETAIL DELIVERY TO CUSTOMERS.

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL CYLINDERS MOBILE TIMING BELT TENSIONER IS DIMENSIONALLY INCORRECT.
Consequence: THE MOBILE TENSIONER CAN COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE TIMING BELT COVER WHICH COULD CAUSE THE TIMING BELT TO FAIL AND CONSEQUENTLY STOP THE ENGINE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE EXISTING MOBILE TIMING BELT TENSIONER USING UPDATED COMPONENTS. THE RECALLBEGAN ON APRIL 4, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DUCATI AT 1-408-253-0499.

DUCATI IS RECALLING 3,614 MY 2007-2008 1098, 1098S, AND 1098 TRICOLORE MOTORCYCLES. THE REAR DRIVE SPROCKET CAN FAIL.
Consequence: IF THE SPROCKET WERE TO FAIL WHILE THE MOTORCYCLE IS BEING DRIVEN, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE MOTORCYCLE WILL EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND/OR THE CHAIN MAY BECOME ENTANGLED WITH THE CHASSIS. THIS CAN RESULT IN A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE REAR DRIVE SPROCKET. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 25, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DUCATI AT 1-408-253-0499.

Reported: 2008-12-03 (December 3, 2008)
DUCATI IS RECALLING 7,130 MY 2007-2008 1098, 1098S, 1098 TRICOLORE, 1098R, AND MY 2008-2009 848 MOTORCYCLES. THE MOTORCYCLE CHARGING SYSTEM MAY BE ADVERSELY AFFECTED BY ENGINE HEAT AND STOP OPERATING. THIS RESULTS IN DAMAGE TO THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR AND ENSUING BATTERY DISCHARGE.
Consequence: THIS CAN RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE MOTORCYCLE AND A POTENTIAL HAZARD TO THE RIDER, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR, INSTALL A HEAT GUARD BETWEEN THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR AND THE ENGINE EXHAUST SYSTEM, AND INSTALL A MODIFIED BATTERY SUPPORT. THE RECALL WILL BEGIN ON DECEMBER 24, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DUCATI AT 1-800-231-6696.
