1) THE PLASTIC GAS TANK HAS "SPREAD" OR DEFORMED AND NO LONGER MOUNTS TO FRONT BRACKET OF THE MOTORCYCLE FRAME. IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT THE TANK WOULD COME LOOSE FROM THE MOTORCYCLE. 2) THE SPREADING SEEMS TO BE CAUSED BY FUEL CONTAINING ETHANOL AND ONCE THE TANK HAS SPREAD IT DOES NOT RETURN TO THE ORIGINAL SHAPE. *TR

Owner report 10359992 · 2010-10-11 (October 11, 2010)

GAS TANK HAS DEFORMED, POSSIBLY DUE TO THE PRESENCE OF ETHANOL IN GASOLINE. RESULTED IN TANK SPREADING AND BEING LOOSE FROM MOUNTS. MANUFACTURER'S SOLUTION HAS BEEN TO ADD SHIMS TO TANK MOUNTS, HOWEVER TANK HAS CONTINUED TO SPREAD. A RELATED (NOT A SAFETY ISSUE) ISSUE HAS BEEN SURFACE BUBBLING CAUSING UNACCEPTABLE VISUAL ISSUE. *TR

Owner report 10366896 · 2010-11-19 (November 19, 2010)

MOTORCYCLE: 2008 DUCATI GT-1000. PLASTIC GAS TANK HAS DEFORMED IN SHAPE, SO THAT THE TANK DOES NOT FIT SECURELY IN THE MOUNTING HARDWARE. POSSIBLE CAUSE IS ETHANOL BLENDED FUEL AND REACTION WITH PLASTIC MATERIAL. DUCATI IS REPLACING TANKS UNDER WARRANTY, BUT TANKS ARE CONSTRUCTED WITH SAME MATERIAL WHICH IN TURN, BEGINS TO SPREAD AGAIN. PERMANENT FIX NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED, AS WARRANTY PERIOD WILL EVENTUALLY END. *TR
