WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED WITH NO BRAKES TO PLAZA DODGE. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE PUMP MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND REPLACED IT THREE TIMES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1993 DODGE DYNASTY. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE BRAKES FAILED. HE HAD TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL TO DECELERATE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT RECALL# 96V099000, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ANTI-LOCK WAS REPAIRED WITH THE PREVIOUS OWNER WHICH MADE HIM INELIGIBLE FOR A FREE REMEDY. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 180,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1993 DODGE DYNASTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PUMP MOTOR ASSEMBLY WAS MAKING A NOISE WHILE DRIVING. HE WAS ADVISED THAT THE ABS, PUMP MOTOR ASSEMBLY AND THE BRAKE ACTUATOR PISTON WERE THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. A LOCAL MECHANIC ADVISED HIM THAT RECALL 96V099000, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC ANTILOCK SEEMED TO BE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE FAILURE. Reported: 1996-06-13 (June 13, 1996)
THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT CAN EXPERIENCE EXCESSIVE BRAKE ACTUATOR PISTON SEAL WEAR CAUSING PUMP-MOTOR DETERIORATION.
Consequence: IF THIS CONDITION OCCURS, THE ABS FUNCTION COULD BE LOST AND REDUCED POWER ASSIST WOULD BE EXPERIENCED DURING VEHICLE BRAKING INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL TEST THE VEHICLE'S ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM AND REPAIR THE VEHICLES IF NECESSARY. ALSO THE WARRANTY ON ALL ABS COMPONENTS WILL BE EXTENDED TO 10 YEARS OR 100,000 MILES (EXCEPT FOR THE BRAKE ACTUATOR PISTON ASSEMBLY AND THE PUMP-MOTOR ASSEMBLY WHICH WILL HAVE A LIFETIME COVERAGE). OWNERS WILL ALSO BE REIMBURSED FOR PREVIOUS ABS COMPONENT REPAIR COSTS.
