WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE TREAD SEPARATED AND CAUSED THE TIRE TO BLOWOUT. THE CONSUMER HAD TO PULL OVER. FIRESTONE, SIZE# LT225 75 R16, DOT# UNKNOWN. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK *TS *JB

FIRESTONE, STEELTEX RADIAL R4S BLEW OUT AND LOST COMPLETE TREAD ON HWY. TIRE MOUNTED ON RV TRAILER (5TH WHEEL) AND WAS 1 OF 4 THAT CAME WITH THE TRAILER. PRESSURE WAS CHECKIN IN THE MORNING PRIOR TO TRAVEL AND WAS AT 80PSI. THE FAILURE OCCURED AT A SPEED OF 65 MPH WITH THE TEPERATURE OUTSIDE APPROXIMATELY 70DEG F. THE FAILURE CAUSED MINOR BODY DAMAGE TO THE SIDE OF THE WHEEL WELL AND RV WHERE THEY JOIN. COST OF REPAIR HAS NOT YET BEEN DETERMINED. I STILL HAVE THE DEFECTIVE TIRE CARCASS BUT NOT THE TREAD AS IT HAS BEEN LOST ON THE HIGH…

Reported: 2001-07-31 (July 31, 2001)

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: FIFTH WHEEL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH NORCOLD REFRIGERATOR COOLING UNITS MODEL NUMBERS N841, N821, N641, AND N621. THESE REFRIGERATORS CAN EXPERIENCE A COOLING SYSTEM LEAK CAUSED BY OPERATION IN THE AC ELECTRIC MODE. IF A LEAK OCCURS, THE COOLING PERFORMANCE OF THE REFRIGERATOR WILL DETERIORATE, REQUIRING IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT OF THE COOLING UNIT.

Consequence: EXTENDED OPERATION OF A LEAKING COOLING UNIT IN THE AC ELECTRIC MODE CAN RESULT IN A FIRE.

Remedy: NORCOLD WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE REFRIGERATOR COOLING UNITS. NORCOLD WILL CONDUCT THE OWNER NOTIFICATION. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT NORCOLD SERVICE CENTER AT 1-800-767-9101 OR CARRIAGE AT 1-219-642-3272.
