ON MAY 23RD, 2012, MY REAR TIRE, AN AVON STORM ST 2 ULTRA, SIZE 170/60ZR17, TIN= DOT AT8G 10 4809, EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN FULL-CIRCUMFERENTIAL DELAMINATION OF PART OF THE CENTER STEEL CORD ACCOMPANIED BY A RAPID DEFLATION OF THE TIRE WHILE RIDING AT SPEED. THE TIRE WAS FITTED TO A 2009 BUELL XB12SS (430 LBS.), CARRYING ONLY MYSELF (160 LBS), AND APPROXIMATELY 40 LBS OF CAMPING GEAR, AND THE TIRE HAS A LOAD RATING 72W. THE TIRE HAD APPROXIMATELY 2700 MILES IN IT AND TREAT APPEARS NEARLY NEW. WHEN THE CORD DELAMINATED IT TORE THE REAR CAST ALUMI…

09V347000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic

Reported: 2009-09-03 (September 3, 2009)

BUELL IS RECALLING MODEL YEAR 2009 XB12SS MOTORCYCLES. THE FRONT BRAKE LINE MAY CONTACT THE FRONT TIRE. THIS CONTACT COULD CAUSE A HOLE TO DEVELOP IN THE FRONT BRAKE LINE, ALLOWING BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK.

Consequence: THIS CONDITION MIGHT CAUSE AN INEFFECTIVE FRONT BRAKE AND LEAD TO A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FRONT BRAKE LINE AND IF UNDAMAGED, INSTALL A GUIDE ON THE LINE. IF THE LINE IS DAMAGED, IT WILL BE REPLACED AND RE-ROUTED. EITHER REPAIR WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BUELL DISTRIBUTION COMPANY AT 1-414-343-8400.
