2007 BMW 530 I . THE LIGHT INDICATING THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG IS NOT WORKING SEEMS TO BE UNFIXABLE. BMW WILL NOT GIVE ME ANY ASSURANCE THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT OF ANY DANGER AND ACTUALLY TOLD ME NOT TO DRIVE IT IF I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE. IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED FIVE TIMES YET THE LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON. *TR

INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) I ([XXX]) AM FILING A COMPLAINT ON BEHALF OF MY MOM ([XXX]) WHO OWNS THE 2007 BMW 530I IN QUESTION (VIN #: [XXX]). ENGLISH IS NOT HER PRIMARY LANGUAGE. ACCORDING TO MY MOM'S ACCOUNT, ON 11/10/2009 SHE PULLED HER CAR INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND WAITED FOR THE GARAGE DOOR TO OPEN. BUT AS SHE LET GO OF THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE VERY QUICKLY WITHOUT HER INTENTION. SHE TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, BUT THE CAR'S MOTOR WAS JUST TOO POWERFUL TO PR…

Owner report 10356868 · 2010-09-21 (September 21, 2010)

I OWN A 2007 BMW 530I. WATER CAN GET BELOW THE TRUNK OF THE VEHICLE WHERE A RDC MODULAR IS LOCATED AND CAUSE THE RDC TO FAIL. THIS RDC FAILURE IN TURN CAN CAUSE YOUR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO FAIL. THIS HAPPENED TO ME AND AS OF TODAY, BMW ONLY REPLACED THE RDC, ON MY DIME OF COURSE EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A CPO WARRANTY. WATER CAN COME FROM CLOGGED DRAINS AT THE SUNROOF AND OTHER PLACES. BMW KNOWS OF THIS ISSUE AND DOESN'T WANT TO FIX THIS ISSUE. IT APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW. AFTER REVIEWING BMW FORUMS, THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH MANY PEOP…

Owner report 10397370 · 2011-04-25 (April 25, 2011)

I WAS WARNED BY THE COMPUTER SYSTEM OF ENGINE OVER HEATING, AND WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY, THE ENGINE AUTOMATICALLY SLOWED DOWN THE SPEED, WHICH CAUSED ME PULL OF THE FREEWAY IN A HURRY, SO I WOULDN'T CAUSE ANY ACCIDENT FOR SLOW TRAFFIC. AT THE MECHANIC'S SHOP, I WAS FIRST INFORMED THAT THERMOSTAT WAS DEFECTIVE, BUT LATER THEY DISCOVERED THE WATER PUMP HAS FAILED. THE REASON FOR THE WATER PUMP FAILURE WAS BECAUSE THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL WITHIN THE WATER PUMP HOUSING APPEARED TO BE BURNED OUT. I WAS ABLE TO SEE THE BURNED CHARRED MARK ON THE I…

WHEN I PURCHASED THE 530I 2007 BMW I WASN'T AWARE OF THE FAULTY REAR MIDDLE SEATBELT. I THINK IT COULD HAVE BEEN DEFECTIVE. SINCE NO ONE PROBABLY SAT IN THAT SEAT IT WASN'T NOTICED. I THINK IT SHOULD BE A LIFETIME WARRANTY AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY ANY PAYMENT TO HAVE IT FIXED. *TR

Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

13V564000 · Air Bags:Sensor:Occupant Classification

Reported: 2013-11-12 (November 12, 2013)

BMW of North America LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2006 325i, 325xi, 330i, 330xi sedans and 325xi sports wagons, model year 2007 328i, 328xi, 335i, 335xi sedans and 328i and 328xi sports wagons, model year 2006-2007 525i, 525xi, 530i, 530xi, 550i sedans and 530xi sports wagons, model year 2006 760i sedans, model year 2006-2007 750i, 750Li, and 760Li sedans, and model year 2006 X5 sports activity vehicles, equipped with certain seat types. The front passenger seat occupant detection mat that determines if and how the passenger frontal air bag should deploy in a crash may fatigue and develop cracks which could lead to a system failure.

Consequence: Should the system fail, in the event of a crash, the front passenger air bag would be deactivated, increasing the risk of personal injury.

Remedy: BMW will notify owners with an interim notification letter in January 2014 since parts are not currently available. When parts are available, BMW sent a second letter in August and dealers will repair the occupant detection mat to eliminate the possibility that it may crack, free of charge. Additionally, owners of model year 2006-2007 3 Series with standard seats, 5 Series with comfort seats, and Z4 models, will receive an extended warranty on their front passenger seat occupant detection mat. Owners may contact BMW customer relations at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com.

17V683000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Exhaust System:Emission Control:Crankcase (Pcv)

Reported: 2017-10-30 (October 30, 2017)

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2008-2011 128i and 2007-2011 328i, 328xi, 328i xDrive, 525i, 525xi, 528i, 528xi, 530i, 530xi, X3 3.0si, X3 xDrive30i, X5 xDrive30i, Z4 3.0i, Z4 3.0si and Z4 sDrive30i vehicles. The heater for the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve may short circuit.

Consequence: An electrical short can cause the parts within the PCV valve to melt, increasing the risk of a fire, even when the vehicle is not in use.

Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the PCV valve heater, free of charge. Interim letters were mailed on November 27, 2017. Owners will receive a second notification by the end of October 2018. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
