Owner report 10545380 · 2013-09-25 (September 25, 2013)
THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT LOCATED ON THE TRUCK LID, CRACKED AND FELL OUT. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY BMW DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED BY MY EXTENDED WARRANTY (WHICH IS STILL VALID) AND THAT BIT WOULD COST 360 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I DID A SEARCH ON LINE AT HTTP://WWW.1ADDICTS.COM/FORUMS AND FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER 1 SERIES BMW OWNERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. IT APPEARS SOME DID HAVE THEIR VEHICLES REPAIRED BY BMW WITHOUT CHARGE AND OTHERS DID NOT. ON THE FORUM I ALSO LEARNED BMW ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TO THEIR DEALERS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. …

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
09V257000 · Seat Belts:Front | Air Bags:Frontal
Reported: 2009-07-08 (July 8, 2009)
BMW IS RECALLING 2,350 MY 2008 1-SERIES AND 3- SERIES PASSENGER CARS. INCORRECT CRIMP CONNECTORS MAY HAVE BEEN USED ON THE SIDE AIR BAG AND BELT TENSIONER WIRING. AS A RESULT SUFFICIENT CONTACT BETWEEN THE CRIMP CONNECTORS AND THE CORRESPONDING PLUG MAY NOT OCCUR WHICH COULD LEAD TO AN INCREASE IN THE ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE OF THAT CONNECTION.
Consequence: IF THAT HAPPENED, IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE FOR THE SIDE AIR BAG AND/OR THE SAFETY BELT TENSIONER NOT TO DEPLOY AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PROPERLY PROTECT AN OCCUPANT, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURIES.
Remedy: BMW WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPAIR THE VEHICLES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND SERVICES TOLL-FREE AT 1-800-525-7417.
