THE MECHANIC DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL SO THAT THE CONTROL ROD WOULD NOT STICK AGAIN. NHTSA RECALL 96V084000 FOR WAS ISSUED. HAVE REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH 3 TIMES SINCE JANUARY 1996. THE SWITCH HAS A POSITION THAT CONTROLS THE TURN SIGNALS AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS. ONE OF THE FAILURE MODES I HAVE EXPERIENCED ALLOWS THE CAR TO START AND RUN PUT DISCONNECTS THE TURN SIGNALS AND WIPERS. I FIND THIS OUT IN TRAFFIC WHEN I NEED THOSE ELEMENTS. AUDI WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM, BUT I NOTICE THE LATEST SWITCH SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN STRENGTHENED WHERE IT WAS BREAKING PREVIOUSLY.
