Owner report 722364 · 2000-05-07 (May 7, 2000)

THE 2 PROBLEMS REPORTED ARE SERIOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECTS WHICH COULD EASILY HAVE CAUSED DEATH OR MAJOR INJURY. THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AT 45 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. IT DISENGAGED THE ENGINE FROM THE TRANSMISSION, LEAVING ME TO COAST AND WEAVE THROUGH TRAFFIC TO THE SHOULDER. THE CLUTCH FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AT A STOP SIGN. HAD IT FAILED A FEW SECONDS LATER I WOULD HAVE BEEN STRUCK BROAD SIDE WHILE CROSSING TRAFFIC. IT FAILED BECAUSE THE CLUTCH HOSE COLLAPSED. BOTH OF THESE PROBLEMS ARE FREQUENT, WELL KNOWN DEFECT…

Recall history

1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

98V013000 · Equipment:Recreational Vehicle/Trailer

Reported: 1998-01-21 (January 21, 1998)

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRAVEL TRAILERS. THE SIMULTANEOUS USE OF THE MICROWAVE OVEN AND THE COOKTOP PRODUCES NEGATIVE PRESSURE THAT CAUSES THE FLAMES ON THE COOKTOP TO REVERSE. THIS COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE BURNER HEAD, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN EXTINGUISHING THE FLAME. IF THE FLAME IS EXTINGUISHED, LIQUID PROPANE (LP) GAS COULD LEAK INTO THE TRAILER.

Consequence: THE PRESENCE OF LP GAS IN THE TRAILER COULD RESULT IN ASPHYXIATION OF PERSONS PRESENT IN THE TRAILER OR POSSIBLY AN EXPLOSION IN THE EVENT THAT THE LP GAS IS IGNITED BY A SPARK.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A DROP-IN BURNER BOX KIT WHICH WILL ELIMINATE THE NEGATIVE PRESSURE WHEN THE MICROWAVE OVEN AND THE COOKTOP ARE USED SIMULTANEOUSLY.
