97V189000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings

Reported: 1997-10-29 (October 29, 1997) · Model years: 1998

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: ALUMINUM WALK-IN VANS BUILT ON GM P30 CLASSIC CHASSIS. INADEQUATE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT AND THE FLOOR PLANK OF THE BODY CAN CAUSE THE FUEL LINES AND/OR SENDING UNIT TO RUB AGAINST THE FLOOR STRUCTURE WHEN THE FLOOR DEFLECTS UNDER LOAD OR THE FUEL TANK EXPANDS.

Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE DAMAGE OVER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME TO THE FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT AND/OR FUEL LINES AND CAUSE FUEL LEAKAGE. IF AN IGNITION SOURCE WAS PRESENT, FIRE COULD RESULT.
