91V212000 · Unknown Or Other

Reported: 1991-12-06 (December 6, 1991) · Model years: 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989

THE BOLT HOLDING THE TONGUE TO THE FIRST CROSS BRACE "U" MEMBER MAY PULL THROUGH BECAUSE OF AN IMPROPERLY SIZED HOLE IN THE CROSSMEMBER.

Consequence: AN IMPROPERLY SIZED BOLT HOLE WOULD REDUCE THE CLAMPINGFORCE BETWEEN THE TONGUE AND CROSSMEMBER, ALLOWING THE TONGUE TO PIVOT BETWEENTHE BALL HITCH AND THE SECOND CROSS BRACE. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE TRAILERJACKKNIFING, AND LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE TRAILER.

Remedy: INSTALL A FLATWASHER IN THE OUTSIZED BOLT HOLE TO INCREASE THE CLAMP FORCE BETWEEN THE TONGUE AND FIRST CROSSMEMBER.
