02V045000 · Unknown Or Other
Reported: 2002-02-08 (February 8, 2002) · Model years: 2000, 2001, 2002
ON CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES EQUIPPED WITH SLIDE-OUT ROOMS, THE MICROPROCESSOR THAT CONTROLS THE SLIDE-OUT OPERATION GENERATES A FALSE SITUATION WHICH TELLS THE SLIDE-OUT MECHANISM TO OPERATE. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, A SECTION OF THE MOTOR HOME EXTENDS OUT BY UP TO 30 INCHES.
Consequence: THIS CAN OCCUR WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL ADD AN EXTERNAL PROTECTION CONTROLLED BY A MANUAL COMMAND. IN ADDITION, AN INSTRUCTION DESCRIBING HOW TO DEACTIVATE THE SLIDE-OUT MOTOR WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE NOTICE TO CUSTOMERS. THIS WILL ELIMINATE THE RISK BEFORE THE REMEDY IS PERFORMED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN FEBRUARY 15, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT PREVOST AT 1-418-831-5432.
