Owner report 10424263 · 2011-09-08 (September 8, 2011)
THE SERVICE POWER UNIT (SPU) SHORTED INTERNALLY AND CAUGHT FIRE. A HOLE BURNED THROUGH THE BACK OF THE PLASTIC UNIT. SINCE THE SPU RESTS AGAINST THE FUEL TANK, WHICH IS PLASTIC ON THIS MOTORCYCLE, THE FIRE STARTED TO MELT THE FUEL TANK. I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE FUEL TANK AND THE SMOLDERING SPU FROM THE BIKE BEFORE THE FUEL TANK MELTED AND GASOLINE SPILLED ONTO THE BURNING SPU. I HAVE PICTURES OF BOTH THE FUEL TANK AND THE DAMAGED SPU WHICH I HAVE FORWARDED TO MV AGUSTA USA. THE PART NUMBER FOR THE DEFECTIVE SPU IS 8000A9615. SPUS WITH T…

Owner report 10426720 · 2011-09-22 (September 22, 2011)
ON THURSDAY, SEPT 1, AT APPROXIMATELY 2PM, I WAS TRAVELING EAST ON STATE ROAD 185 WHEN I NOTICED THE MOTORCYCLE BEGAN TO RUN POORLY. THE ENGINE WOULD SUDDENLY SHUT OFF AND RESTART. THIS HAPPENED TWICE. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CEASED TO FUNCTION. I PULLED THE BIKE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE MOTORCYCLE IN THE AREA OF THE SPU AND FUEL TANK. BEING FAMILIAR WITH THIS MOTORCYCLE AND THE PROBLEMS WITH THE SPU REPORTED BY OTHER OWNERS, I FEARED IT WAS FAILING. THE SMOKE GOT WORSE, I.E. IT INTENSIFIE…

Owner report 11133611 · 2018-10-05 (October 5, 2018)
BIKE WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE NEXT TO ANOTHER 7 MOTORCYCLES AND SUDDENLY WITH NO KEY IN, AN ELECTRICAL PART CALLED SPU START BURNING AND IN THE WHOLE GARAGE WAS A WHITE SMOKE CLOUD WITH A STRONG ODOR. AFTER CHECKING WHERE THE SMOKE CAME, I DISCOVERED THAT WAS UNDER THE GAS TANK, IMMEDIATELY I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND WHEN I CHECKED THE FUSE BOX, THE FUSE BOX WAS EXTREMELY HOT AND THE GAS TANK WAS BURNING. THE ODOR WAS KILLING ME. THANKS GOD WE WERE HOME, BECAUSE THE OTHER 7 MOTORCYCLES AND 10 GALLONS OF RACE FUEL, COULD BE CATASTROPHIC.
