Fuel lines, strong gas smell inside the cabin, the gas leak posed a significant safety hazard, risk of fire or explosion, risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, risk of injury or death to myself and/or others. My 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 has become unsafe to drive due to strong gasoline fumes filling the cabin. The smell is overwhelming and makes it difficult , and frankly dangerous , to sit in the vehicle for more than a few minutes without feeling lightheaded. I have since learned that this issue is part of a known defect covered under NHTSA Recall #21V961, which affects 2016–2020 CLA 250 models for a fuel leak and potential fire hazard. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 MERCEDES-BENZ CLA250. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE "FRONT LEFT MALFUNCTION" AND "SERVICE REQUIRED" MESSAGES APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PARK PLACE MOTOR CARS MERCEDES-BENZ (5601 BRYANT IRVIN RD, FORT WORTH, TX 76132, [phone removed]) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAGS NEEDED NEW WIRING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V365000 (Electrical System, Communication) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to file a formal safety complaint regarding my 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 involving a leaking fuel rail that caused the vehicle to shut down and become unsafe to operate. The failure of the fuel rail resulted in a fuel leak and engine shutdown. The contact stated while driving at approximately 55 MPH when the contact was cut off by another vehicle, the contact stated that he depressed the brake pedal in a panic stop.
