Reported: 1988-04-05 (April 5, 1988) · Model years: 1988

TIE ROD END TAPERED STUD TO THE TIE ROD STEERING ARMS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TIGHTENED TO SPECIFIED TORQUE.

Consequence: THE TIE ROD END NUTS COULD LOOSEN, SHEAR OFF THE LOCKINGCOTTER PIN AND ALLOW THE TIE ROD TO SEPARATE FROM THE TIE ROD STEERING ARM.THIS COULD CAUSE VEHICLE TO CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

Remedy: INSPECT VEHICLES AND TIGHTEN MOUNTING TIE ROD END NUTS TO PROPER TORQUE.
