HONDA GL1800 GOLD WING MOTORCYCLE FRAME FAILURE. *MR FRAME FAILURES OCCURRED WHILE THE MOTORCYCLE WAS IN MOTION. THE ENGINE DROPPED TO THE HIGHWAY AND THE STEERING WAS DANGEROUSLY AFFECTED. HONDA HAD BEEN SECRETLY REPLACING THESE. THE ENGINE ALSO OVERHEATED AND CAUSED COOLANT TO SPILL ON THE HIGHWAY JUST AHEAD OF THE REAR TIRE. *SCC *JB

TRANSMISSION POPS IN AND OUT OF GEAR WHILE DOWN SHIFTING SOMETIMES, LOCKING REAR TIRE USUALLY ENTERING A TURN. PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN CONTINUALLY WORSE. TOOK TO DEALER WHERE WARRANTY MANAGER FOUND SAME PROBLEMS WHILE RIDING. THIS MOTORCYCLE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 4 WEEKS ON 7/21/02. THERE HAS BEEN WORK DONE TO THE BIKE AS OF 7/16/02. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 HONDA GOLDWING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION JUMPED OUT OF FIFTH GEAR ON ITS OWN AND GRINDS. THE VEHICLE STRUCK A CURB AND THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO PREVIOUS FAILURES. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 22,177.

MY F1 LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. SINCE MY GOLDWING IS A CONVERSION TO A TRIKE, THE KICKSTAND WAS FIXED AND IS INOPERABLE. ON THE PUBLIC HIGHWAY, TRIKE WAS RUNNING VERY ROUGH AND SMELLED OF A VERY LEAN FUEL MIXTURE AND STALLING AT EVERY TRAFFIC LIGHT AND HAD TO BE RESTARTED. A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION. I TOOK IT TO MY LICENSED HONDA MECHANIC AND HE KNEW IMMEDIATELY THAT IT WAS THE COMPUTER. HE STATED IF I WOULD HAVE DRIVEN IT IN THAT CONDITION THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WOULD HAVE MELTED AND REALLY CAUSED PROBLEMS. ANOTHER UNSAFE CONDITION. MY…
