Owner report 10356167 · 2010-09-17 (September 17, 2010)

NEW BIKE @ 3000 MILES HAS THE FUEL TANK EXPANDING AND SWELLING. THE TANK GETS DEFORMED AND CLEARANCE ISSUES BECOME EVIDENT. THE FRONT FORKS START HITTING THE TANK AND CRACKS BEGIN TO FORM. THE TANK WILL PUNCTURE SOON. DUCATI DEALER TAKES PHOTOGRAPHS AND SENDS THEM TO HEADQUARTERS. THEY APPROVE A REPLACEMENT TANK. I FEEL THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE MATERIAL OF THE TANK (PLASTIC) AND THE ETHANOL IN THE FUEL. THIS PROBLEM WILL KEEP HAPPENING IF THE MATERIAL IS NOT CHANGED. SO FAR 34% OF US HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS ISSUE AND FEEL THAT DUCATI IS IGNORING…

Owner report 10420290 · 2011-08-16 (August 16, 2011)

THE COMPOSITE GAS TANK HAS EXPANDED DUE TO AN INTERACTION WITH THE FUEL. THE FUEL TANK SWELLS AND BULGES FROM THE FRAME OF THE BIKE. THE MALFORMATION OF THE TANK CAUSES THE STEERING AND SUSPENSION TO CONTACT THE TANK WHILE RIDING AND TURNING. THE CONTACT IS CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE FINISH AND CRACKS IN THE TANK. THE OPENING FOR THE KEY IN THE TANK IS OBSTRUCTED AND COULD PREVENT THE LOCKING MECHANISM FROM WORKING AND TURNING OFF THE ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER IS REPLACING TANKS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMATIC TANK IF THE VEHICLE IS UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY …
