Owner report 11300465 · 2020-01-20 (January 20, 2020)

WITHOUT WARNING, THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND INDICATORS GO DARK. THE VEHICLE CAN BE STATIONARY OR IN MOTION WHEN IT HAPPENS. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER, FIELDS BMW, TWICE. THE FIRST TIME THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED THE BATTERY ON MY REMOTE KEY CONTROL, THE SECOND TIME SERVICE TOLD ME IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM AT BMW AND THEY WERE WORKING ON A SOFTWARE FIX. MY SECOND CONTACT WAS PROBABLY SIX WEEKS AGO, BUT IT HAPPENED AGAIN TWO DAYS AGO WHEN MY WIFE LOST THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS IN THE EVENING. IT IS VERY STARTLING (AND UNSAFE) TO LOSE THE DASHBOA…

Owner report 11568093 · 2024-01-26 (January 26, 2024)

The X3 suddenly slowed down to stoppage on an interstate highway, and the car "shifted" to Neutral by itself. I had to shift back to "Drive" and then drive away. It happened twice in September to October 2023, with my family and other kids in the car. Luckily there was traffic, driving speed was relatively low. Contacted two BMW dealerships and the only thing they could do was change the battery. They said maybe the battery wasn't functioning fully. However, BMW shouldn't stop my car on a highway just because the battery may be relatively low. …

AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM ACTIVATED WITHOUT CAUSE. THERE WAS NO VEHICLE OR OTHER OBJECT IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE NEVERTHELESS THE BRAKES WERE AUTOMATICALLY EMPLOYED SUDDENLY SLOWING THE CAR. SPEED AT TIME OF THE EVENT WAS APPROXIMATELY 50-60 MPH. THERE WAS A WARNING SIGNAL AND DASHBOARD ICON FOR THE AEB SYSTEM.

Owner report 11399252 · 2021-03-05 (March 5, 2021)

WE PREVIOUSLY HAD AN ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE WHERE THE DASHBOARD GAUGES WERE SHIFTING A FEW INCHES TO THE LEFT AND LOST VISIBILITY TO THE SPEEDOMETER. THIS WAS RESOLVED AFTER A FEW VISITS WITH THE GAUGE CLUSTER BEING REPLACED. WE ARE NOW HAVING AN ISSUE WHERE OCCASIONALLY THE DASHBOARD GAUGE CLUSTER WILL GO COMPLETELY BLANK FOR A FEW SECONDS. THE IDRIVE COMPONENTS REMAIN ON DURING THIS TIME. IT'S DIFFICULT TO TAKE A PICTURE, AS IT ONLY OCCURS WHILE DRIVING. THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ANY CONSISTENCY TO WHEN THIS OCCURS, BUT IT DOES NOT HAPP…

Owner report 11567145 · 2024-01-23 (January 23, 2024)

On the 2019 BMW X3, we’ve experienced the tailgate opening while the vehicle is in traffic, and the transmission is in ‘D’ drive. The safety hazard I’m suggesting be investigated is that the buttons on the remote key fob to the vehicle, including lock, unlock, tailgate, and panic, ALL work even if the vehicle is turned on and driving. This poses a serious safety risk to not only occupants of the vehicle, objects or animals that may be in the trunk, but also to other motorists on the road. We’ve personally had this happen three times, all …

Owner report 11218877 · 2019-06-10 (June 10, 2019)

THIS VEHICLE HAS THE 'LANE DEPARTURE FEATURE WARNING" . THIS FEATURE HAS 3 SETTINGS,FROM LIGHT TO STRONG. ON THE FIRST TWO SETTINGS THE STEERING WHEEL DOES NOT VIBRATE AT ALL, ON THE STRONGEST SETTING THE VIBRATION FOR THE MOST PART CANNOT BE FELT EITHER. I HAD A 2014 X5, STEERING WHEEL DEFINITELY HAD A PRONOUNCED VIBRATION THAT WAS FELT. BROUGHT IT BACK TO BMW, ENGINEERS SAY THAT THEY HAD COMPLAINTS THAT THE X5 VIBRATION WAS TO SEVERE SO THEY MADE IT LESS OBTRUSIVE. IF YOU HAVE THREE MODES OF OPERATION AND TWO MODES DO NOT WORK AT ALL, AND THE…

Owner report 11255435 · 2019-09-13 (September 13, 2019)

I PURCHASED A NEW 2019 BMW X3 XDRIVE 30I MIDSIZE SUV ON AUGUST 31, 2019. I SPECIFICALLY CHOSE THE DRIVER ASSIST OPTION THAT INCLUDES BOTH LANE DEPARTURE AND BLIND SPOT WARNING FEATURES. UPON TESTING TO VERIFY THAT THESE FEATURES WERE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, I DISCOVERED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION WARNING FEATURE DID NOT WORK. NO VIBRATION AT ALL WAS DETECTED WHENEVER I CHANGED LANES EVEN THOUGH I SET THE DESIRED VIBRATION LEVEL TO THE HIGHEST SETTING AND I WAS VERY CAREFUL TO DRIVE AT A SPEED, 50 MPH, FOR WHICH THE FEATURE SHOULD BE ACTIV…

Owner report 11695243 · 2025-10-23 (October 23, 2025)

Subject: Rear Differential Mount Failure and Driveshaft Breakage , Sudden Loss of Vehicle Control at Highway Speed Complaint Summary: While driving at highway speed, I experienced a sudden and extremely loud bang from the rear of the vehicle. Immediately afterward, I lost complete control of the rear end, accompanied by violent clanking and grinding noises from the driveline area. The gearbox then stalled, leaving the vehicle disabled in the middle of the highway. Upon inspection, it was determined that a rear differential mounting bolt had s…

Owner report 11695587 · 2025-10-25 (October 25, 2025)

Turbo coolant lines/ Oil filter housing failed I am reporting failure of the oil filter housing and turbo coolant lines on my 2019 BMW X3. These parts are leaking coolant due to defective plastic components and sealing surfaces, which causes sudden coolant loss and overheating risk while driving. This is a widespread issue affecting many BMW owners and has been documented in forums, service centers, and BMW technical bulletins. The failure poses a safety hazard, including potential engine failure at highway speeds, loss of power, and risk o…
