DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 40-50 MINUTES. TAKE EXIT, CRUISE TO OFF RAMP LIGHT, THE CAR IS IN MOTION AND THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THE CAR IN MOTION INITIALLY RESPONDS AND 3/4 OF THE WAY TO THE LIGHT (ALMOST AT INTERSECTION BRAKES FAIL, NO BRAKES AND THE CAR MAKES A CLICKING NOISE' SIMILAR TO WHEN A BATTERY IS ALMOST DEAD, BUT THE CAR IS ON, ELECTRICAL AND EVERYTHING SEEMS OK EXCEPT FOR THE BRAKES. THE RAMP IS AT AN INCLINE (UPHILL A LITTLE) SO THE CAR STOPS. THE CAR IS PARTIALLY IN THE INTERSECTION. THANKFULLY NO CAR IN FRONT O…

Owner report 10934409 · 2016-12-10 (December 10, 2016)
DURING MY NORMAL CITY DRIVING ROUTE THE BRAKES STARTED MAKING AN AWFUL SCREECHING NOISE. I PULLED OVER WITHIN 1 CITY BLOCK OF HEARING THE NOISE AND MY REAR DISC BRAKE ROTOR HAD A LARGE GROOVE WORN INTO IT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS A ROCK THAT GOT STUCK BETWEEN THE PAD AND THE ROTOR AND THEY WOULD REPAIR THE CAR FOR FREE, WHICH INCLUDED ORDERING PARTS. I THOUGHT IT WAS STRANGE WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP & THE CLERK THAT ANSWERED THE PHONE SAID THAT THIS HAPPENS OFTEN, SO THEY JUST REPAIR IT FOR FREE. I ASKED IF IT WAS A DEFECT IN THE DESI…

AUGUST 19, 2017 I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AT A VERY LOW SPEED AND APPLIED THE BRAKES TO PARK. THE CAR AGGRESSIVELY ACCELERATED EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE CAR WENT THROUGH MY NEIGHBORS FENCES AND IT FINALLY STOPPED BETWEEN TWO GARAGES BEHIND MY PROPERTY ON THE NEXT STREET. I COULD NOT OPEN THE DOORS OR WINDOWS FOR A MINUTE OR TWO. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR AGAIN.

Owner report 11456077 · 2022-03-10 (March 10, 2022)
The high-pressure fuel pump failed while the car was in motion and the engine completely shut off. This was incredibly dangerous and put the lives of the driver, passenger (young child) and surrounding cars at risk. The problem was diagnosed by an independent BMW service center and is currently being repaired. There were no warning lights or messages apparent to the driver, but the service technician could see the diagnostic codes in the car's computer. There is an active recall for the 2017 diesel model of the BMW X3 due to this same fu…

Owner report 11534653 · 2023-07-26 (July 26, 2023)
Fuel pump control module stopped working causing the engine to stop. It would not restart. Also, the car would not shift out of park into neutral, thus it could not be moved. This happened on a highway in traffic and created a very dangerous situation. Apparently, this fuel pump control module has a history of failing in hot weather. In this particular case the vehicle had been operating in 100 degree weather for a few hours.
