Owner report 10577367 · 2014-04-04 (April 4, 2014)

DURING REPLACEMENT OF THE XENON HEADLAMP BULBS ON THE VEHICLE I NOTICED THAT ALL THE VINYL WIRE COVERING MATERIAL HAD BECOME BRITTLE AND CRACKED OFF MOST OF THE COPPER WIRE IN SIDE BOTH THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLIES. THE NOW EXPOSED BARE WIRING POSSES POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARDS AND ALSO LOSS OF LIGHTING AT NIGHT. I BELIEVE THAT THE OEM HEADLAMP SUPPLIER SUPPLIED OUT OF SPEC WIRE AND SHOULD REMEDY THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS LIFE SAFETY SITUATION. *TR

Owner report 10670308 · 2015-01-05 (January 5, 2015)

BOUGHT A NEW 2014 BMW X3. IN NOVEMBER 2014 WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THIS SUV HAD A MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. THIS VEHICLE CONTROLLED ITSELF, I WAS NOT IN CONTROL OF THIS VEHICLE. FOR MORE THAN HALF AN HOUR, THE TRUCK WAS JERKING HARD BACK AND FORTH IF I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKES. THE WHEELS WERE NOT MOVING ANY TIME. I COULD NOT EXIT THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE THE BODY WAS JERKING. I THOUGHT ABOUT JUMPING OUT BUT I DIDN'T KNOW IF THE VEHICLE WOULD HIT SOMEONE OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE, HURT FROM JUMPING AND …

Owner report 10594039 · 2014-05-26 (May 26, 2014)

I RECENTLY PURCHASED MY FIRST BMW IN OCTOBER 2013 AT A DEALER IN FLORIDA. IN MARCH 2014, MY HUSBAND AND I WERE TRAVELING WHEN SUDDENLY THE STEERING WHEEL STOPPED WORKING. I WAS COMPLETELY UNABLE TO STEER THE CAR, SO WE STOPPED ON THE ROAD. WE IMMEDIATELY CALLED BMW SERVICE CENTER AND WERE REASSURED THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM. WE WERE TOLD TO RESTART THE CAR AND CONTINUE TO DRIVE. THE STEERING WHEEL WORKED AGAIN TEMPORARILY UNTIL 2 MINUTES LATER WHEN IT LOCKED AGAIN! THIS TIME WE WERE ON THE HIGHWAY AND YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW TERRIFIED I WAS. I…

Owner report 10959065 · 2017-03-07 (March 7, 2017)

THE 2014 X3 HAS A DIRECTIONAL CONTROL ISSUE. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM LOW SPEEDS, WITHIN 2-3 SECONDS WITHOUT A FIRM HOLD ON THE STEERING WHEEL, THE CAR DEPARTS THE LANE OF TRAVEL, DIVERTING TO THE RIGHT HAND SIDE. IN STEADY STATE DRIVING REGARDLESS OF SPEED IN A RANGE OF 30MPH-75MPH, WITHIN 5 SECONDS WITHOUT FIRM HOLD ON THE STEERING WHEEL, THE CAR DIVERGES TO THE RIGHT FROM ITS LANE OF TRAVEL. WITH ANY SLIGHT DISTRACTION OF THE DRIVER, THE X3 DRIFTS TO THE RIGHT HAND SIDE, ALWAYS THE RIGHT SIDE, AND HAS BEEN UNCORRECTED WITH ALIGNMENT, NEW TI…

Owner report 11732798 · 2026-04-21 (April 21, 2026)

I am filing a safety complaint regarding a catastrophic timing chain failure on my 2014 BMW X3 xDrive28i equipped with the N20 engine. While driving, the timing chain and oil pump drive chain failed without warning. This is a well-documented defect on BMW N20/N26 engines that has been the subject of extended warranties and numerous consumer complaints. This failure can cause sudden engine seizure, immediate loss of power steering and braking assist, and creates a serious risk of crash while the vehicle is in motion. BMW issued an Extended Li…

1) AT 14K MILES, THE TRANSMISSION TRANSFER CASE FAILED. LOCAL BMW SERVICE SHOP REPLACED THE CASE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. I WAS SURPRISED BY THIS ISSUE AT THIS LOW MILEAGE AS I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MANY CARS FOR PAST 25+ YEARS, BUT NEVER HAD SUCH PROBLEMS. 2) IN LAST WEEK OF JAN , MY CAR ENGINE COMPLETELY STOPPED AND CAR CAME OFF DRIVE MODE WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON HIGHWAY. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NONE BEHIND MY CAR AND I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY STOP MY CAR WITH THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON. CAR WOULD NOT GO IN DRIVE MODE UNTIL I HAD STOP…
